In the Essay on Education I am on safer ground, although long contemplation has deprived me of that freshness of perception with which I approached the pre vions themes. With fine subtlety of instinct, he who instils intellectual doubts has always been branded as the enemy and yet, in defence, I beg leave to put forward to the persons for whom this book is intended the plaintive enquiry which the Apostle addressed to the Galatians: Am I become an enemy because I Speak the truth A.
