In No Mission Is Impossible, Michael Bar-Zohar and Nissim Mishal depict in electrifying detail major battles, raids in enemy territory, and the death- defying commando missions of the Israeli Special Forces. The stories are often of victories, but sometimes also of immense failures, and they run side by side with the accounts of the lives and accomplishments of some of Israel’s most prominent figures. This comprehensive compilation of some 595 documents on the Arab-Israeli conflict and a variety of related issues includes all the materials the researcher, analyst, and student of this conflict and region needs in a single text, from the years 1897 to 2003. Documents are listed in chronological order because many documents refer to more than one subject. They are, however, identified in the introduction according to subject matter. When different aspects recurred in a number of UN resolutions, only the main document is included, while others are referred to. The compilation is not only about Palestinian issues. It includes all relevant documents between Arab states and Israel, from the armistice agreements (1949), to the peace treaties with Egypt (1979) and Jordan (1994), as well as their protocols and other documents that derive from these treaties. The subject-matter content is as varied as the legal and political issues presented by this conflict. It includes geographical boundaries, refugees, water rights, regional security, elimination of weapons of mass destruction, and, of course, human rights and peace. Published under the Transnational Publishers imprint. The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9781571052902).

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Politics - Region: USA, grade: 3,0, University of Bonn (Institut für Politische Wissenschaft und Soziologie), course: American Foreign Policy in the Post-Cold War World, language: English, abstract: Following World War Two the world stood at a new beginning. The United States had finally taken its spot as Superpower acting globally and the Jewish people, after the horrors they had experienced under Nazi persecution were finally given the opportunity to return to what they considered their “promised land” to live in their own state. In 1948 the state of Israel was officially founded and with it the entire Middle-East would change. While Imperialism and Colonialism had been dominating the centuries before a new world was about to begin, at the very least for the people in the Middle-East. Since then U.S. foreign policy in the Middle-East has been dominated by the United States’ foreign policy towards Israel. The relations between these two nations has often been described as a special friendship, a friendship in which the two nations stick together regardless of right or wrong. This text undertakes the difficult task of examining the origins of this truly special friendship and the implications of this on U.S. foreign policy. One of the central questions to examine is without a doubt whether the United States’ support for the state of Israel is based upon a small but powerful Jewish lobby within the United States or whether it is much more so because of fundamental ideals and values shared by both nations and its people. The text points out many fundamental ideologies and ideas about the world and the two nation’s role in this world in an attempt to get to the root of this truly unique friendship between the United States and Israel.

“I am not afraid to look.” – Tom Hurndall, 2003. On the eve of the invasion of Iraq in February 2003, Tom Hurndall, a photography student at Manchester Metropolitan University, travelled from Manchester to the Middle East to witness the horrors in Iraq and then later in Palestine. Tom was shot in the head by an Israeli soldier on 11 April 2003 whilst attempting to rescue two children trapped by Israeli sniper fire. He later died in hospital on 13 January 2004 without gaining consciousness. He is remembered for his determination to bear witness to the conflict in Palestine and his bravery to capture the atrocities directed towards the suppression of the Palestine people. This book is a collection of lectures written by reputable scholars who offer diverse perspectives on the historical, political and cultural struggles in Palestine. Encompassed in the pages are sixteen chapters produced for the Tom Hurndall Memorial Lecture Group. Unlike predecessors of this topic, this book offers a thought-provoking and comprehensive analysis of Palestine, including architectural, cultural, legal, sociological, and psychological questions, providing a larger scope of study that has not yet been done before. Ultimately, this book explores oppression in Palestine and beyond in the Middle East. The vast study and in-depth exploration makes this an ideal book for those who are interested in the Palestine conflict, Zionism, Israel and further conflict in the Middle East, as well as a necessity for those who are studying the topic in education settings.
