For centuries the histories of France and Germany have been linked in ways productive and destructive, and each nation's sense of itself has often been shaped by admiration of or hostility toward the other. Harold Mah explores the interweaving paths of German and French cultural identity that emerged in the Enlightenment and continued through the nineteenth century and into the twentieth.Mah argues that the efforts of German and French intellectuals and artists to formulate stable cultural identities constantly collapsed in the face of other powerful images and the rush of history. In Mah's view, these shifting conceptions of cultural identity are problematic phantasies, internally unstable and prone to falling apart under the pressure of events, only to be replaced by new, equally problematic constructions. Mah offers fresh analyses of a wide range of iconic texts and artworks, including those of Jacques-Louis David, de Staël, Diderot, and Rousseau in France and Goethe, Hegel, Herder, Mann, Marx, and Nietzsche in Germany.Mah's book examines how attempts to define cultural identities were caught up in issues of language, gender, classical revival, politics, and modernity. Enlightenment Phantasies presents the shaping of cultural identity in narratives accessible not only to specialists but also to students and all readers concerned with the history of Western culture.

False Awakening: A convincing dream about awakening from sleep, when in reality you are still asleep. Wake up! What is the most sinister world you can imagine, the worst of all possible worlds? It's the one where all of the people are endarkened but believe themselves enlightened. None of them wants to change because they think they are perfect. They exist forever in this benighted condition, doing nothing to discover the Truth of reality, to find the answers to existence, to see the real light rather than the fake light. Our world is full of the fake enlightened, the phony awakened, the fraudulent "lightworkers". The so-called light they perceive is "darkness visible", i.e. Satanic light, the light of hell. Nothing is more dangerous than a false awakening. The world is full of legions of the falsely awakened, of endarkened zombies. They are still asleep, still inside the cave, and merely dreaming that they have seen the light. Wake up!

Enlightenment Beyond Traditions is a unique and revolutionary book. Through this book has been channeled the light of Pure Understanding that brings us to the spiritual wholeness. With an exceptional precision, it leads us through the complex and dangerous realm of awakening, where so many got lost. This book is truly beyond traditions, that is, beyond the past knowledge. The vision of Enlightenment which it presents is multidimensional, embracing doubtlessly, the eternal paradox of Being and Becoming; the human and the eternal. Here the ancient ideal of liberation is itself transcended within the awakening of the Soul, who reaches her final destiny: Divinity. In this new understanding, the evolution into the Ultimate Peace and awakening to the Heart are seen clearly as belonging to different planes of experience, being met, however, within the complete human being. The crucial message of this book is the positive role of the Me, which is the mysterious subject behind all experiences. It is no longer denied, but on the contrary, seen as the only vehicle through which the Universal I AM journeys in the human dimension towards Its own light.

Building on his previous groundbreaking work, Peter Ralston once again proves to be a sure-footed guide for readers seeking to negotiate the challenging terrain of personal and spiritual growth. In accessible language, Ralston demonstrates how the lofty goals of self-transformation and enlightenment can be achieved with a no-nonsense approach available to anyone willing to reach beyond their current experience of self and reality. Pursuing Consciousness is a down-to-earth handbook for staying focused on the work at hand, even while tackling such unsettling tasks as investigating deeply ingrained psychological beliefs and identifying common areas of misunderstanding that hamper transformative growth. Ralston explains that deeper levels of consciousness aren't just for monks—anyone can have an enlightenment experience. He shows that enlightenment does not transform the self, and transforming the self does not produce enlightenment. Once we grasp that these two pursuits take place in entirely different domains of consciousness, we can use each to empower the other. Ralston provides specific tools for changing the very person that we experience being. His work has been acclaimed by people from a diverse range of disciplines—including spiritual teachers, psychiatrists, cognitive scientists, physicists, and artists. As with Ralston’s previous works, this book points the way to a direct encounter with the true nature of Being and the possibility of real personal change.

In The Next Enlightenment, Walter Truett Anderson treats Eastern spiritual traditions and Western philosophy, psychology and science as steps along the same evolutionary path rather than as completely separate and incompatible schools of thought. In the opening chapters, he looks at five different "Liberation Movements" that emerged in the modern world: the eighteenth century European Enlightenment; the nineteenth century upheaval resulting from the publication of Darwin's Origin of Species; and in the twentieth century, existentialism, psychoanalysis, and the human potential movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He then argues that this century's next surge of thought and action will regard the exploration of the physical universe and the study of human consciousness as two sides of the same coin, and equally important, come to understand personal enlightenment as a natural process of growth rather than a supernatural gift bestowed upon a chosen few. Elegantly argued and written with a sense of humor, The Next Enlightenment offers a refreshing vision of how the ancient quest for enlightenment is taking on new life in a rapidly-changing, globalizing world.
