Die Mentalisierungsbasierte Therapie (MBT) wurde von Anthony W. Bateman und Peter Fonagy zur Behandlung von Patienten mit Borderline-Persönlichkeitsstörungen (BPS) entwickelt und gilt als eine der evidenzbasierten Behandlungsansätze für diese Störung. Es handelt sich um einen integrativen Therapieansatz, der psychodynamische Elemente um systemische und kognitive Aspekte erweitert. Der Band vermittelt das Grundkonzept der MBT, erläutert das Störungsmodell, beschreibt die MBT-spezifische Grundhaltung des Therapeuten sowie MBT-spezifische Interventionen und informiert über vorliegende Wirksamkeitsnachweise. Mentalisieren wird in der MBT als etwas grundsätzlich Erlernbares angesehen. Das Ziel der Therapie besteht in der Stabilisierung oder Förderung von Mentalisierung besonders in interpersonell affektiven Kontexten, wofür sich zunächst die Beziehung zum Therapeuten besonders eignet. Bei dem hier vorliegenden Werk handelt es sich um eine verdichtete Fassung des aktuellen MBT-Manuals in deutscher Sprache, in dem das therapeutische Vorgehen zudem anhand eines ausführlichen Fallbeispiels veranschaulicht wird.
