Excerpt from Seventeenth Annual Report of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, for 1894-95: Including Minutes of the Seventeenth Annual Meeting of the Woman's Board of Foreign Missions, Held in Meridian, Miss., May 10-15, 1895 At Soochow, the boarding school, the day schools, and hospital, are all doing well. I was gratified at the reports presented. The observations I was able to make confirm those cheering statements. I saw the work of the boarding school, and hospital, but could not visit all the day schools. These are well located, so that the children attend the Sunday schools at our two churches in the city. I indorse most heartily the application of Dr. Walter for a children's ward in the hospital. The annual meeting was an occasion of great spiritual blessing. Many important questions involving practical administration and business adjust ments were freely discussed. There was harmony of Spirit and purpose, and only such differences of opinion as are necessary to healthy growth. The relation of the work and workers to the missions and missionaries of the Parent Boar I, I found harmonious and helpful. Excerpt from Twenty-First Annual Report of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, for 1898-1899: Including Minutes of the Twenty-First Annual Meeting of the Woman's Board of Foreign Missions, Held in Nashville, Tenn., May 18-23, 1899 The Board has reached its majority, and can look back upon a record very creditable, considering all its environments. Gratitude swells many hearts, because much has been achieved; but regret, with its humiliating touch, oppresses, because so much more might have been done. Rather than dwell upon the delinquencies of the past, there should be a hopeful forward look, with the fixed purpose of doing greater things. The work of foreign missions cannot stand still; advancement is the law of its life. What effects of our efforts can be seen in the fields entered? There may not be a very large number of conversions recorded, though thousands have passed from death unto life, and the representatives of the Board have the joy of knowing that they have not labored In vain In the Lord. The most marked change is perhaps in the attitude of the heathen whom we have sought to influence. Going among them, living beside them, Showing Christian home life and Chris.
