Sol-Gel Techniques for Glass Producers and Users provides technological information, descriptions and characterizations of prototypes, or products already on the market, and illustrates advantages and disadvantages of the sol-gel process in comparison to other methods. The first chapter entitled "Wet Chemical Technology" gives a summary of the basic principles of the sol-gel chemistry. The most promising applications are related to coatings. Chapter 2 describes the various "Wet Chemical Coating Technologies" from glass cleaning to many deposition and post-coating treatment techniques. These include patterning of coatings through direct or indirect techniques which have became very important and for which the sol-gel processing is particularly well adapted. Chapter 3 entitled "Bulk Glass Technologies" reports on the preparation of special glasses for different applications. Chapter 4 entitled "Coatings and Materials Properties" describes the properties of the different coatings and the sol-gel materials, fibers and powders. The chapter also includes a section dedicated to the characterization techniques especially applied to sol-gel coatings and products.

Thermal insulation is the reduction of heat transfer between objects in thermal contact or in range of radiative influence. Thermal insulation can be achieved with specially engineered methods or processes, as well as with suitable object shapes and materials. In low-energy buildings in climates with a heating demand the entire building envelope has to be well insulated. The building envelope consists of all the building elements which separate the inside from the outside. Its main purpose is to provide for a comfortable indoor climate irrespective of the outdoor climate which is determined by the weather. During cold periods the temperature inside the building envelope is usually higher than it is outside. As a result, heat is lost through the envelope and, unless this heat is replaced, the inside of the building cools down adjusting to the outdoor temperature. The inverse applies during hot periods with excessive heat entering the building through its envelope. Therefore, it makes sense to restrict the heat flow in any building irrespective of the climate and this is where thermal protection comes in. Effective Thermal Insulation - The Operative Factor of a Passive Building Model presents elementary practical and well-organized applications in saving energy concept, along with a solitary action for this category of topics. The book aims to illustrate numerous methods in treatment, the concept of thermal insulation such as processes and the attempt to build an efficient passive building model.

A large amount of energy is consumed in the industry to meet the power needed for production processes. In order to meet the heat and mechanical power needs required for many industrial processes, natural gas, petroleum fuel, and electricity are mostly used as energy sources. In addition to the efficient use of energy in order to reduce operating costs in industrial applications, alternatives such as efficient use of energy for conservation of resources and climate, energy recovery, renewable energy preferences, and energy production from wastes are becoming more common. With proper energy management, it is possible to increase energy efficiency independently of the size of the industry and the technologies used in the process. The development of new alternatives for energy efficiency and saving is crucial to meet the growing world energy needs and to compete effectively with fossil fuels and thus reduce greenhouse gases. This small book is a collection of research and reviewed chapters dealing with energy-efficient materials and strategies in different conditions. The Editors would like to record their sincere thanks to the authors for their contributions.

This book gives information and guidance on important subjects. It presents the major and efficient applications for efficient insulation materials. The book is divided into two parts. Part I discusses ecological insulation materials. In this part, the three sub-subjects are drafting, Unconventional insulation materials, Jute-Based Insulation Material, and Possible Applications of Corn Cob as a Raw Insulation Material. Part II: discusses Practical Applying and Performance of Insulation Materials (case studies), where three sub-subjects are drafting seismic aspects of the application of thermal insulation boards beneath the building's foundations, flammability of bio-based rigid polyurethane foam thermal insulation, and the review of some commonly used methods and techniques to measure the thermal conductivity of insulation materials.

In fuel cell research, the gap between fundamental electrochemical processes and the engineering of fuel cell systems is bridged by the physical modelling of fuel cells. This relatively new discipline aims to understand the basic transport and kinetic phenomena in a real cell and stack environment, paving the way for improved design and performance. The author brings his unique approach to the analytical modeling of fuel cells to this essential reference for energy technologists. Covers recent advances and analytical solutions to a range of problems faced by energy technologists, from catalyst layer performance to thermal stability Provides detailed graphs, charts and other tools (glossary, index) to maximize R&D output while minimizing costs and time spent on dead-end research Presents Kulikovsky’s signature approach (and the data to support it)—which uses "simplified" models based on idealized systems, basic geometries, and minimal assumptions—enabling qualitative understanding of the causes and effects of phenomena
