The book deals with the Educational Development Index in India through an inter state perspective. The authors have attempted to construct the Educationaal Development Index of India at various level of education viz., Primary, Upper Primary, High and Higher Secondary for Rural and Urban areas separately. This analysis has been made on the basis five broad variables namely (i) Literacy, (ii) Achievement of Education, (iii) Quality of Teaching, (iv) Infrastructure Facilities and(v) Expenditure on Education etc. It emerges from the analysis that Bihar is the most backward state for all educational parameters both in rural and urban areas for Primary, Upper Primary and High Secondary Levels. While for higher secondary level Karnataka is highly backward state followed by Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. As against this Kerala is the most development state at all levels of education except in the case of higher secondary Level where Haryana is followed by Kerala, Punjab and Rajasthan.
