This book contains previously unpublished & practical design & management information on all forms of drip & microirrigation for agricultural crops. This book benefits from over 30 years of drip/micro design & management experience by the authors in addition to information gleaned from dozens of recent visits to growers using the latest versions of drip/micro. This book is not a repeat or conglomeration of published research. It is meant to satisfy questions by students, designers, & growers who must make hard decisions in the field. Major sections deal with benefits & problems associated with various forms of buried drip. Complete design examples are given for 3 irrigation systems, & new design criteria are provided for pipe sizing of buried drip systems. This book is a must for anyone contemplating practical drip/micro design & management. To order, contact; Irrigation Training & Research Center, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407; 805-756-2434.

This book is intended for people who need to know practical, technical details related to design, material selection, installation, and management of drip and micro irrigation systems. The information in this book was obtained over the years from discussions with literally hundreds of growers, system designers, installers, and professionals. The information is (i) a mix of new ideas developed by the authors; (ii) a compilation of grower, dealer, and manufacturer experiences and common knowledge; and, (iii) some data from published articles or books. Using our own practical experiences and academic backgrounds, we attempted to sort through and organize this information. Our objective is to help people shorten the "learning curve".

This comprehensive work examines the fundamentals required for reclaimed water schemes to deliver sustainable farming operations that achieve the yield and quality of produce necessary for acceptance in the market. Growing Crops with Reclaimed Wastewater reviews the historical background of water treatment, its use and disposal from Australian wastewater treatment facilities and the technologies now utilised to treat our wastewater for reuse. The major concerns of chemical, physical and pathological qualities of reclaimed water are addressed, ensuring that the environmental, economic and social requirements of today’s society are met. It reviews the state and national regulatory requirements and guidelines that have made Australia a world leader in the management of reclaimed water and also examines the guidance in the United States of America (Federal) and in California, the World Health Organization guidance and the situation in Israel. This is the first time such a definitive review has been produced on the use of wastewater for horticulture and it will be a key tool for decision makers, researchers and practitioners to understand the main issues and constraints. It will be of particular interest to agricultural scientists, waste and horticulture consultants, engineers, planners, state agencies, environmental officers and students.

The aim of this book is quite ambitious: here, we attempt to bridge the gap between soH physicists, agronomists, horticulturists, hydraulic engineers, de signers, manufacturers and users of drip irrigation systems. We believe that progress in drip irrigation hinges on the contributions of professionals made in all related disciplines and their cooperation. The last decade has seen great development in the field of drip irrigation, al though the drip-irrigated area has not increased at the same rate as in the pre vious decade. However, our understanding of the processes involved in water and solute distribution and in plant response has increased vastly. The tools for op timal design of drip systems have improved tremendously. The main progress has been in the development and in the manufacture of sophisticated equipment; not only improved types of emitters and laterals, but also auxiliary equipment such as new filtration systems, controllers and sensors. In this book we highlight the need to maintain a proper balance between the hydraulic design of drip systems and aspects of their management and maintenance. Drip irrigation has a potential for high water use efficiency, but many well-designed systems suffer from bad management. We are indebted to the late Eshel Bresler for his contribution to our under standing of water and solute movement under drip irrigation and its appli cation to system design.
