James Hays (1785-1851) was born in Warwickshire, England, son of Thomas Hays. He immigrated to the United States in 1804 with the family of William Reader and lived awhile with them in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He migrated to Harrison County, Indiana, in 1808. He married Mariah Faith (1799-1877), daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Pike Faith, in 1818 in Heth Township, Harrision County, Indiana. They had ten children, 1819-1840. Descendants listed lived in Indiana, Washington, Montana, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and elsewhere.
