Yvette Tan, one of the Philippines’ most celebrated horror writers, returns with her second short story collection. Two friends adapt in a zombie-infested Angeles City. At Luneta Park, a girl and a young tikbalang begin their journey to save the last moon. A brothel in Poblacion offers an expecting father pleasures he cannot resist. And in the titular story, an American unwittingly purchases a mail-order bride from the mystical island of Siquijor. From stories of youthful charm with supernatural twists, to provocative tales of unassuming humans willingly falling prey to creatures with manicured talons, Seek Ye Whore and Other Stories forms a panoramic view of the Filipino experience—sometimes humorous and touching, oftentimes dark and forbidding.

A moving van pulled in at 303 East Street's driveway. The father, Harry Lyle Brown and his best friend, Lennie Lee got out of the moving van's cab. They started carrying furniture for the downstairs through a built-on porch. When the van was empty, the house's downstairs had in it: a black couch, brown dining room table with five brown chairs, three bookcases, a black Lazyboy, a rocking chair, two black chairs, a knick-knack shelf, a box of knick-knacks, three wall clocks, a nineteen inch TV, TV stand, one double bed, a freezer, and a cloth dresser. Harry and Lennie organized per room; living, dining, kitchen, and bedroom. A half an hour later, the full moving van again entered the driveway. Harry and Lennie started carrying furniture for the upstairs. Three roller-away beds, five dressers, one double bed, four black trunks, three brown writing desks, three four-shelved bookshelves, ten boxes filled with paperback books, four nightstands, and two-dozen suitcases filled with clothes. After carrying all of the suitcases and furniture upstairs, Harry and Lennie put one of each in the bedrooms and hall. Pouring with sweat the two sat down in the kitchen and each of them had a cigarette.

My Gawd! and Other Stories by Fairbanksjust the one word, like Moses, like Prince. My Gawd! Is that allowed? Can you write that? If it was a film, it would be rated R: adults only. But not rated X by any means; this is not erotica. Thats the fun of the clever writing. Its fiction! It sometimes gets very close to the line, but then it backs off. There are only a couple of jolts in retrospect. Some stories have no sex at all. (Does sex between insects count?) This is a collection of thirteen short stories set out as one per month plus New Years. It is fun to take up the authors suggestion and read the last story first (and then again at the end). This tantalizing New Years story is written as a play, and the other one is a humorous narrative poem. The stories are full of interesting and varied charactersyoung, old, male, female, ordinary, eccentric, naughty, and nice. Settings include the authors backyard, Central Australia, other rural backgrounds, and Canberra. Each short story is different, holding the readers interest and moving along without dragging. There are no boring bits at all. There is poetry in the prose, touching descriptions of setting and character. Two of the stories are longer, giving the reader the chance to follow an interesting plot and the characters more fully. Watch out for the famous Fairbanks twist! Lots of marketing potential with this one! Put it on your bedside table and read one story a night for fun and for titillation. The next Fifty Shades? The naughty outback Aussies version. My gawd!

These stories from the middle period of Chekhov's career show him exploring complex, ambiguous and often extreme emotions. Influenced by his own experiences as a doctor, 'Ward No. 6', set in a mental hospital, is a savage indictment of the medical profession. 'The Black Monk', portraying an academic who has strange hallucinations, explores ideas of genius and insanity; in 'Murder', religious fervour leads to violence; while in 'The Student', Chekhov's favourite story, a young man recounts a tale from the gospels and undergoes a spiritual epiphany. In all the stories collected here, Chekhov's characters face madness, alienation and frustration before they experience brief, ephemeral moments of insight, often earned at great cost, where they confront the reality of their existence.

This final volume in the Fu-Manchu collection brings together some unpublished manuscripts, and stories which have previously appeared only in magazine form, by the late Sax Rohmer. The long title novella and three others feature the dastardly Dr. Fu-Manchu – and, of course, his unremitting opponent, Sir Denis Nayland Smith. There are eight more stories in this book, no less characteristic of Sax Rohmer's art.
