A number of nuclear reaction studies have been performed. Measurements of the energy dependence of recoil properties of Sc nuclides and A = 131 isobars formed in the interaction of 238U with 1 to 400 GeV protons are described. The results of angular distribution measurements on various products in the A = approximately 130 mass region as well as on Sc nuclides produced in the interaction of 238U with 11.5 GeV protons are given. A calculation of various geometrical corrections to angular distribution measurements is described. A study of the production of radionuclides in the interaction of silver with 25.2 GeV 12C ions is in progress. Research performed on (p, p'), (p, .cap alpha.), (.cap alpha., .cap alpha.'), and (.cap alpha., p) reactions of even Zn isotopes with 12.5 MeV protons and 18 MeV 4He ions is described. 6 figures.

A number of nuclear reaction studies are in progress. Measurements of the energy dependence of recoil properties of 131Ce, 131La, and 131Ba formed in the interaction of 238U with 0.8-400 GeV protons are described. Preliminary results on the angular distribution and differential ranges of Sc and Ba nuclides formed in the interaction of 238U with 0.8, 3.0, and 11.5 GeV protons are given. Preliminary angular distribution measurements of products formed in the interaction of 238U with 400 GeV protons are described. A comparative study of the interaction of silver with 25.2 GeV 12C ions and high energy protons is described and results of the analysis of the proton data are presented. The formation of 24Na in the interaction of gold with protons and .pi. was studied and preliminary results are reported. A list of publications is included. (JFP).

This book presents the foundations of nuclear physics, covering several themes that range from subatomic particles to stars. Also described in this book are experimental facts relating to the discovery of the electron, positron, proton, neutron and neutrino. The general properties of nuclei and the various nuclear de-excitation processes based on the nucleon layer model are studied in greater depth. This book addresses the conservation laws of angular momentum and parity, the multipolar transition probabilities E and M, gamma de-excitation, internal conversion and nucleon emission de-excitation processes. The fundamental properties of α and β disintegrations, electron capture, radioactive filiations, and Bateman equations are also examined. Nuclear Physics 1 is intended for high school physics teachers, students, research teachers and science historians specializing in nuclear physics.

During the past year, our research program has involved continuing analysis of Fermilab E-735, search for quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in {bar p}-p collisions; continuing study of target fragments produced in the interaction of copper with intermediate-energy heavy ions; an exclusive study of multifragmentation using reverse kinematics at the Bevalac; and detector development for the STAR detector at RHIC.
