DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Dedication of the Soldiers Monument at Dorchester, September 17, 1867 The whole structure is built in the most substantial manner, the different courses being clamped together with composition bars. The ground at the base of the monument is graded thirty feet square, about a foot above the natural level, and inclosed by a heavy border of hammered Quincy granite. Gravel walks lead to the tablets, terminating in a circular gravelled space; the rest of the inclosure is turfed. The architect of the monument was Mr. B. F. Dwight, of Boston; and the contractors were the Gloucester Red Granite Company. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
