The human species on earth is a hybrid species born of earthly women and ancient male warriors who fell from outer space. All ancient civilizations knew this because it happened in their time. Their legend and lore tell of the exploits of these heavenly beings and their offspring. The Christian Bible and the Jewish Talmud in the book of Genesis call these extraterrestrial warriors various names in different translations. They are referred to as heavenly beings, sons of God, giants on the earth, and of course sons of heaven. But all translations of the Bible narrate the same simple story. After the fall, the sons of heaven saw that earthly women were beautiful, and they took them for their wives. These daughters of earth were beautiful both to the eye and mind. These daughters of earth carried in them the seeds of our civilization, compassion, cooperation and understanding. The product of this union became not only our hybrid species but the heroes and great men and women throughout recorded and unrecorded history. We are them. Rico is the last remaining son of heaven on earth who fell here in ancient times to father our civilization. Lost, alone, and broken, he grieves the mortality of his hybrid species. They do not share his impossibly long lifespan. Living among them is constant loss, pain, and grief. Rico also grieves his hybrid species dark side. Some offspring retain the unquenchable hunger for flesh of their earth ancestors and the long lifespan of the sons of heaven. The ugly head of Tarquez periodically scars the history of humankind with death, destruction, and sorrow. Tarquez is one of those hybrids born of the first generation of the union who retained both the unquenchable hunger for flesh and the long life span of the sons of heaven.

“An explosive, fascinating book that reveals how the Bible cannot be used as a rulebook when it comes to sex. A terrific read by a top scholar.” —Bart Ehrman, author of Misquoting Jesus Boston University’s cutting-edge religion scholar Jennifer Wright Knust reveals the Bible’s contradictory messages about sex in this thoughtful, riveting, and timely reexploration of the letter of the gospels. In the tradition of Bart Erhman’s Jesus Interrupted and John Shelby Spong’s Sins of Scripture, Knust’s Unprotected Texts liberates us from the pervasive moralizing—the fickle dos and don’ts—so often dictated by religious demagogues. Knust’s powerful reading offers a return to the scripture, away from the mere slogans to which it is so often reduced.

"My other works are wine and water," said Samuel Johnson to Samuel Rogers, "but my Rambler is pure wine." Some critics have disagreed, labeling the essays uneven and dismissing the bulk of them as hastily concocted hackwork by a writer taking a break from or earning money for a more important project--the Dictionary of the English Language. Yet, Steven Lynn, in the first book-length study of The Rambler, resoundingly contradicts such critics; combining deconstruction and other current methods with eighteenth-century rhetorical theories, Lynn refutes conventional critical wisdom among Johnsonians, asserting that the 208 Rambler essays form a coherent whole. Lynn argues that a controlling tenet in the series is that "we are each and every one ramblers, wandering and searching for some stable meaning and satisfaction, which will inevitably elude us in this world. By confronting this absence, Johnson (like a deconstructive theologian) leads us repeatedly to acknowledge the necessity of faith." For Lynn, furthermore, the unifying thread running through the series is expressed in the prayer Johnson composed as he embarked on the journey of The Rambler: "Almighty God, . . . without whose grace all wisdom is folly, grant, I beseech Thee, that in this my undertaking thy Holy Spirit may not be witheld from me, but that I may promote thy glory, and the Salvation both of myself and others." As Lynn shows, though Johnson anticipates deconstruction, his controlling evangelistic aim differs profoundly and instructively from it.

The Hebrew Goddess demonstrates that the Jewish religion, far from being pure monotheism, contained from earliest times strong polytheistic elements, chief of which was the cult of the mother goddess. Lucidly written and richly illustrated, this third edition contains new chapters of the Shekhina.
