In the letter, Squier describes the actions of his unit, the 2nd United States (U.S.) Sharpshooters Regiment, on 7-8 November 1863 at Kelly's Ford and Brandy Station. He also mentions the possibility of winter quarters, expressing his hope to spend one night in a tent before being ordered to move. A transcript by an unidentified individual with some biographical information on Squier is also included.
