The papers consist of a letter written by Daniel W. Squier to his cousins while he was near Brandy Station, Virginia in November 1863. In the letter, Squier describes the actions of his unit, the 2nd United States (U.S.) Sharpshooters Regiment, on 7-8 November 1863 at Kelly's Ford and Brandy Station. He also mentions the possibility of winter quarters, expressing his hope to spend one night in a tent before being ordered to move. A transcript by an unidentified individual with some biographical information on Squier is also included.
