Previously there were -no separate averages for inactive AI bulls, but the averages except for pd% could have been computed from the other averages distributed with the active AI list. Inactive AI bulls had a stud code and had entered the stud at least 3 months prior to the Summary date but were not in active service at the time of the Summary. Excerpt from Dairy Herd Improvement Letter, Vol. 53 This year's increase in the production averages of 800 pounds of milk and 28 pounds of fat for cows on official test is unusual compared with the average increase over the previous 11 years of 150 pounds of milk and 5 pounds of fat. It is explained by the fact that (1) nine States had average milk production increases of 820 to pounds on cows, (2) seven States had average milk production increases of 700 to 775 pounds on cows, and (3) that almost all other States had increases in average milk production ranging up to 680 pounds. Fourteen States had increases in fat production of 28 to 58 pounds on cows, and 14 States had increases of 20 to 27 pounds on cows.
