DOWNLOAD EBOOKNumismatic Archaeology of North America is the first book to provide an archaeological overview of the coins and tokens found in a wide range of North American archaeological sites. It begins with a comprehensive and well-illustrated review of the various coins and tokens that circulated in North America with descriptions of the uses for, and human behavior associated with, each type. The book contains practical sections on standardized nomenclature, photographing, cleaning, and curating coins, and discusses the impacts of looting and of working with collectors. This is an important tool for archaeologists working with coins. For numismatists and collectors, it explains the importance of archaeological context for complete analysis.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKCoins have long been a vital part of the discipline of classical studies of the ancient world. However, many scholars have commented that coins have not been adequately integrated into the study of the New Testament. This book provides an interdisciplinary gateway to the study of numismatics for those who are engaged in biblical studies. Wenkel argues that coins from the 1st century were cultural texts with communicative power. He establishes a simple yet comprehensive hermeneutic that defines coins as cultural texts and explains how they might be interpreted today. Once coins are understood to be cultural texts, Wenkel proceeds to explain how these texts can be approached from three angles. First, the world in front of the coin is defined as the audience who initially read and responded to coins as cultural texts. The entire Roman Empire used coins for payment. Second, the world of the coin refers to the coin itself – the combination of inscriptions and images. This combination of inscription and image was used ubiquitously as a tool of propaganda. Third, the world behind the coin refers to the world of power and production behind the coins. This third angle explores the concept of authorship of coins as cultural texts.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe term numismatic derives from the Latin numismatis, genitive of numisma, variant of non-same («currency»). Numismatics is the science that studies currencies and elements formally or functionally related to them; that is to say, all the objects that by their external appearance resemble them, such as medals or tokens, as well as all those that perform a monetary function in ancient and modern societies (paper money, traditional money, etc.), and those related to its manufacture, official control and use (scales, dumbbells and weights). Numismatics played an important role in the development of historical studies, especially in the birth of Archeology. When dealing only with paper money, the term exclusive notafilia is usually preferred. The numismatics is known since the times of the Roman Empire, although it can not be known with certainty at what moment it began as a social phenomenon (collectors). Numismatics as a science begins timidly in the nineteenth century, a time of modernization and appreciation as such of all sciences, as we understand them today. This science can give invaluable testimony of the exchanges and economy of the peoples, as well as their political, geographical, religious history...
