DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe culmination of more than 25 years of clinical work and research, this is the authoritative presentation of cognitive processing therapy (CPT) for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Written by the treatment's developers, the book includes session-by-session guidelines for implementation, complete with extensive sample dialogues and 40 reproducible client handouts. It explains the theoretical and empirical underpinnings of CPT and discusses how to adapt the approach for specific populations, such as combat veterans, sexual assault survivors, and culturally diverse clients. The large-size format facilitates photocopying and day-to-day use. Purchasers also get access to a Web page where they can download and print the reproducible materials. CPT is endorsed by the U.S. Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies, and the U.K. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a best practice for the treatment of PTSD.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKMost practical applications of artificial neural networks are based on a computational model involving the propagation of continuous variables from one processing unit to the next. In recent years, data from neurobiological experiments have made it increasingly clear that biological neural networks, which communicate through pulses, use the timing of the pulses to transmit information and perform computation. This realization has stimulated significant research on pulsed neural networks, including theoretical analyses and model development, neurobiological modeling, and hardware implementation. This book presents the complete spectrum of current research in pulsed neural networks and includes the most important work from many of the key scientists in the field. Terrence J. Sejnowski's foreword, "Neural Pulse Coding," presents an overview of the topic. The first half of the book consists of longer tutorial articles spanning neurobiology, theory, algorithms, and hardware. The second half contains a larger number of shorter research chapters that present more advanced concepts. The contributors use consistent notation and terminology throughout the book. Contributors Peter S. Burge, Stephen R. Deiss, Rodney J. Douglas, John G. Elias, Wulfram Gerstner, Alister Hamilton, David Horn, Axel Jahnke, Richard Kempter, Wolfgang Maass, Alessandro Mortara, Alan F. Murray, David P. M. Northmore, Irit Opher, Kostas A. DOWNLOAD EBOOK"SPPARC" highlights the importance of working with partners in order to create real life change both for partners and for people with aphasia. "The SPPARC" pack consists of a manual, downloadable resources and provides: practical resources to run, support and conversation training programmes either for groups of partners or for the partner and the person with aphasia together as a couple; conversation assessment and treatment materials, photocopiable and printable (from the downloadable resources) activities and handouts, as well as an introduction to conversational analysis; and, downloadable resources with 27 extracts of everyday conversations between several people with aphasia and their partners, which can be used as a resource both for assessing everyday conversation and for facilitating change.Theoretically validated through the 'Coping with Communicating' research project from University College London, "SPPARC" goes beyond the theory and provides a complete resource of clinically effective tools to work with people with aphasia and their communication partners.

Imaging Informatics Professionals (IIPs) have come to play an indispensable role in modern medicine, and the scope of this profession has grown far beyond the boundaries of the PACS. A successful IIP must not only understand the PACS itself, but also have knowledge of clinical workflow, a base in several medical specialties, and a solid IT capability regarding software interactions and networking. With the introduction of a certification test for the IIP position, a single source was needed to explain the fundamentals of imaging informatics and to demonstrate how those fundamentals are applied in everyday practice. Practical Imaging Informatics describes the foundations of information technology and clinical image management, details typical daily operations, and discusses rarer complications and issues.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis volume contains the proceedings of the Ninth Meeting of the "International Study Group for Tryptophan Research" (lSTRY), held at the University of Hamburg, Germany, from October 10 to 14, 1998. At this meeting the recent developments in the field of tryptophan research were presented by leading researchers from all over the world in 81 oral and 48 poster contri butions. Research on tryptophan and its derivatives provides an inexhaustible subject. At the conference we tried to compose a multifacetted picture of the recent investiga tions through contributions from the major disciplines involved. Thus, we tried to strike a balance between basic research topics and clinical, nutritional or industrial applica tions. We offered workshops on tryptophan (in sleep and mood), melatonjn, IDO-acti vation and the eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome (EMS) as a platform for intensive discussion for the participants. In these proceedings many contributions are multidisciplinary and have practical or theoretical implications for different research fields. Hence, we have organized this volume in nine main chapters according to basic disciplines and subjects. We are aware that this classification is artificial, but we hope that it is the best compromise for contributors and readers.
