DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe construction industry is an information-intensive sector and low levels of productivity are often blamed on inadequate integration of information. This book shows how the different types and sources of information can be integrated to benefit individual construction projects, construction companies and in the construction industry at world-wide level.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThrough the material, readers are given the ability to analyze systematically a potential area of need - such as a function in a department - to determine whether a computer application might help to assess the costs and benefits of alternative proposals and to proceed from that analysis to a clear specification for what the proposed solution should accomplish. There is also coverage of how computer professionals evaluate hardware and design the software and systems that will implement a given application. Furthermore, readers will learn how to manage the people, resources, time, and money required in the development process for creating a given application program or for adapting a package application to the needs specified in the design.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKEfficient communication, collaboration, data exchange and sharingare crucial for the success of today's many multi-disciplinary andinterdisciplinary work environments. The implementation of computerintegrated environments (CIE) is increasing and the requirementsengineering necessary for the development of these systems iscritical. Requirements Engineering for Computer Integrated Environmentsin Construction provides an important source of information andadvice for organizations needing bridge the gap between users anddevelopers in the implementation of computer integrated solutionsas well as for consultants providing services to their clients inCIE development. The framework explained in the book is comprehensive andaccessible. It provides a set of tools and techniques enablingreaders to design, manage and deliver effective CIE-type systems inany complex organization – from construction andmanufacturing to the information technology and service sectors.Construction companies for example, can use the framework providedto implement building information modelling to manage thediagnosis, planning, implementation and monitoring stages in BIMadoption. Based on real experiences and lessons learned from many years ofsystem development, this book offers an excellent resource forresearchers and postgraduate students interested in CIE developmentfor all multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary workenvironments.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book focuses on the intelligent application of advanced information technology tools (such as CAD and KBES) to design and planning in construction. It describes and explains the current applications of computer tools, presents new ideas for their use in design and planning processes, and in particular, concentrates on the preliminary design stage. Computer Integrated Planning and Design for Construction aims to demonstrate the implementation of these ideas and uncover the extraordinary opportunities for design improvement as a result.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAbstract: Construction is one of the most information-dependent industries compared to other sectors. Computers have been used to improve the efficiency of management in most businesses including the construction industry. Treating information efficiently is the key to maintaining an edge over competitors and for success in business. However, in order to succeed, companies must choose a management system that is most suited to their operations. The difficulty about computerization in civil engineering is that the construction industry does not have trained IT experts with Civil engineering or Management background. Although there are many computer applications for project management, almost all the applications required some form of manual modification for updating information. -- In a construction project, time and accurate information is vitally important in order to accomplish scheduled completion. A small change in plan costs money and time in both the traditional methods as well as current IT applications. The main reason is that there is no direct link between the head office and the regional site office and there is no "quick" link between site office and site engineers who are out in the field for most of the time. This study proposes the design of an information transfer system to improve construction site management. A Web-based Construction Site Management system called "WCSM" will be developed. WCSM incorporates some major features including: Integration of Web technology and mobile computing into construction site management and automatic project schedule updates. -- The performance of WCSM is evaluated through virtual simulations, and comparisons with other relevant applications are reported. These evaluations showed that WCSM required significantly less time, for initial project set up and modifications during project implementation, when compared to MS Project and Micro Planner.^ V.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn an increasingly globalised built environment industry, achieving higher levels of integration across organisational and software boundaries can lead to improved economic, social and environmental outcomes. This book is the direct result of a collaborative global network of industry and academic researchers spread across nine countries as part of CIB’s (International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction) Task Group 90 (TG90) Information Integration in Construction (IICON). The book provides a broad view of some of the opportunities and challenges brought by integrating information across organisational and system boundaries in the built environment industry. Chapters cover a large range of topics and are separated into three sections: resources, processes and added value. They provide a much-needed international perspective on a current global evolution in the industry and present leading original research and valuable lessons for researchers, industry practitioners, government clients and policy makers across the industry. Key features include: a broad range of topics that are not covered elsewhere in the literature; contributions from a diverse group of industry research leaders from across the globe; exemplar case studies providing real-world examples of where information integration has been a key factor for success or lack thereof has been at the root cause of failure; an analysis of future priority areas for research and development investment as well as their strategic implications for public and private decision-makers; the book will deliver innovation in best practice methodology for information sharing across disciplines and between the design, construction and asset management sectors.
