Furthermore, to take a closer look at the languages comes the differentiation of nominal compounds, adjective compounds and verbal compounds in English and Turkish. The final point is the analysis of the differences and similarities of English and Turkish compounds. With the help of word formation processes we form new words and there are many different processes that lead to many different new words. Compounding is a morphological operation where two or more free morphemes create one complex morpheme. Compounds are very important because they can prevent ambiguity if you just take a closer look at them and there are probably no languages without compounding. Every language is in need of compounded words because of the new inventions and changes in our society everyday. One of the most important and often used word formation processes is compounding. This term paper presents a general overview of the structure of compounds in English and Turkish. Because my mother language is Turkish and I study English, I was really interested in the differences between the English and Turkish language. English is an analytic language and Turkish an agglutinating language therefore it makes it more interesting to analyze.

The Noun in Turkish. Its Argument Structure and the Compounding Straitjacket is a comprehensive study of the rich system of nominal compounds in Turkish. This language builds compounds in an enormous diversity of forms and shapes, ranging from extremely simple forms to much more complex and at the same time structurally less transparent types of construction. This diversity is not limited to internal complexity as such, but is also determined by the immense variety in the types of complement the head noun of a compound may take. In linguistic theory it is generally assumed that verbs are lexically coded for a number of arguments. It is also believed by some theoreticians that a noun derived through nominalization has one or more inherited arguments. This book shows on both semantic as well as morphological grounds that for Turkish such a stance is untenable, and also that the enormous range of patterns we find in complements can be accounted for in a relatively simple way by assuming that noun phrases, clauses and sentences can be captured by one unifying notion. This leads to the insight that a seemingly wide variety of constructions form one class as a result of the morphological process of compounding, rather than analyzing them syntactically.Furthermore, this study includes a discussion of the questions: why does Turkish have such an extremely productive system of compound formation that virtually knows no limits with respect to both complexity as well as expressibility, and secondly, how does this system relate to theoretical alternatives such as adjectivization?

This volume investigates ideological and hegemonic practices in globally and locally written English as a Foreign Language (EFL) textbooks, and explores whether these textbooks reflect the values, beliefs and norms of the native-speaker society by examining their ideological components and the hegemonic practices by means of which the source society or state seeks to influence learners of the language. Studies on the relationship between ideology, hegemony and textbooks in applied linguistics have become more prevalent in recent decades, as the emergence of critical theory, critical pedagogy, and critical thinking skills from the 1920s onwards has led scholars to adopt a more critical perspective towards EFL textbooks, especially with regard to elements of ideology and hegemony. These two terms encompass a plethora of components, ranging from nationalism to religion. At the same time, the importance of metanarratives originating from the tenets of modernism has declined from the 1960s onwards, the assumption being that the world has entered a new age called postmodernism and post-structuralism that emphasizes the role of individuals and rejects efforts to reinforce post-colonialism, the effects of which can be seen in EFL textbooks. Accordingly, taking the elements of ideology and hegemony into account remains a vital aspect in the analysis of EFL textbooks.
