Searching for something to make their game of “Find the Treasure” more exciting, Bradley takes an 1854 gold coin from his father's lockbox. In the thick woods of nearby Chicamauga National Battlefield, his cousin, Glen, slides down into a limestone cave to hide the gold piece for Brad to find. In the dark, he bends to place the coin on the faint glow of foxfire from a piece of rotting wood. Before he can stand, he gets dizzy and faints. When Brad goes inside looking for his cousin, the same thing happens to him. When they wake up, they discover they are on a steamboat in 1854 and the gold coin is missing. Even worse, the captain sends them out in a rowboat with a huge storm coming. Half the crew is down with fever, so the boys are recruited to join the First Mate in a small boat out ahead of the sternwheeler. They must probe for a spot deep enough for the steamboat to safely cross a shallow sand bar. The captain promises to reward each of them with a gold dollar. But that's not what they really want. When the storm rolls in, the cousins fear they might not get out alive, especially when they all realize the steamboat is headed straight for their rowboat. One thing is for sure, they never expected to find this when they went looking for treasure.

“Daniel Barbarisi plunges into an adventure from another era when he goes in search of buried treasure, guided only by a cryptic poem, a mischievous art collector, and the footsteps another pursuer who died on the quest… Every page draws you deeper into this no-man’s-land where fortune—or tragedy—awaits.” —Christopher McDougall, author of Born to Run When Forrest Fenn was given a fatal cancer diagnosis, he came up with a bold plan: He would hide a chest full of jewels and gold in the wilderness, and publish a poem that would serve as a map leading to the treasure's secret location. But he didn't die, and after hiding the treasure in 2010, Fenn instead presided over a decade-long gold rush that saw many thousands of treasure hunters scrambling across the Rocky Mountains in pursuit of his fortune. Daniel Barbarisi first learned of Fenn's hunt in 2017, when a friend became consumed with decoding the poem and convinced Barbarisi, a reporter, to document his search. What began as an attempt to capture the inner workings of Fenn's hunt quickly turned into a personal quest that led Barbarisi down a reckless and potentially dangerous path, one that found him embroiled in searcher conspiracies and matching wits with Fenn himself. Over the course of four chaotic years, several searchers would die, endless controversies would erupt, and one hunter would ultimately find the chest. But the mystery didn't end there. Full of intrigue, danger, and break-neck action, Chasing the Thrill is a riveting tale of desire, obsession, and unbridled adventure.

The theft of the numerous archaeological artifacts which comprise the so-called Lydian Hoard (Karun Hazineleri or Karun Treasure, in Turkish) is legendary. So too is its discovery, the lawsuit which embroiled the Republic of Turkey and the all powerful Metropolitan Museum of Art for almost six years, and the surprising problems encountered after the treasure had been repatriated to Turkey. With the possible exception of the exploration of the tomb of Tutankhamon, no other archaeological discovery can compete with the Lydian Hoard for its mystique and intrigue. No other archaeological discovery has influenced and destroyed as many lives as the Lydian Hoard. Chasing The Golden Hoard follows the lives of a Turkish family living on the outskirts of the modern town of Usak in southwestern Turkey as they accidentally discover an unplundered Sixth Century B.C. tomb, dating from the reign of Lydian king Croesus (Karun, in Turkish).

"AN ANCIENT AIRCRAFT MADE OF GOLD SAID TO BE THOUSANDS OF YEARS OLD...THE UNRELENTING AMAZON JUNGLE...A BEAUTIFUL LITERARY AGENT...DANGER AND ROMANCE COME TOGETHER IN THE LATEST CHASE BAKER ADVENTURE!" "Can Chase survive the unrelenting jungle?" Seeking a much needed payoff, Chase Baker stumbles into the opportunity of a lifetime: to use his treasure hunting skills to seek out an aircraft hidden deep in a remote part of the Amazon Jungle. But the aircraft in question isn’t any old airplane. Legend claims it’s an ancient flying machine called the Golden Condor—an intergalactic spaceship delivered to the Incas by aliens more than a thousand years ago. There’s a catch, of course. Hostile tribal natives, in collaboration with a band of Tupac Amaru revolutionary terrorists, will stop at nothing to murder Chase, his team of explorers, and his beautiful literary agent, before they reach the Condor. And if the terrorists don’t kill them, then the writhing, creeping jungle almost certainly will. But in typical Chase Baker style, once he sets his sights on the prize, nothing will stand in his way. They are embarking on a mission that, if it succeeds, will change the way historians view the ancient Inca civilization—and alter society's beliefs about early man and the heavens above. Readers of Dan Brown, Clive Cussler, Wilbur Smith, and JR Rain, will find Chase Baker's adventures “well worth every minute,” according to SUSPENSE MAGAZINE. What the critics are saying: "If you put Zandri and Dan Brown in a dark Cairo back alley, I'd put money on Zandri. He went to Cairo in the middle of the Arab Spring (against the explicit wishes of the U.S. State Department), gathered materials for the book while Tahrir Square rioted ... The Shroud Key is page-turning fun for popcorn munchers." --Ben Sobieck, CrimeFictionBook Blog "Zandri has brought back that wonderful ‘quest’ story ... The tale begins over three-hundred years ago, when the Fair People—the goblins, fairies, dragons, and other fabled and fantastic creatures of a dozen lands—fled the Old World for the New, seeking haven from the ways of Man. With them came their precious jewels: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls... But then the Fair People vanished, taking with them their twelve fabulous treasures. And they remained hidden until now... Across North America, these twelve treasures, over ten-thousand dollars in precious jewels, are buried. The key to finding each can be found within the twelve full color paintings and verses of The Secret. Yet The Secret is much more than that. At long last, you can learn not only the whereabouts of the Fair People's treasure, but also the modern forms and hiding places of their descendants: the Toll Trolls, Maitre D'eamons, Elf Alphas, Tupperwerewolves, Freudian Sylphs, Culture Vultures, West Ghosts and other delightful creatures in the world around us. The Secret is a field guide to them all. Many "armchair treasure hunt" books have been published over the years, most notably Masquerade (1979) by British artist Kit Williams. Masquerade promised a jewel-encrusted golden hare to the first person to unravel the riddle that Williams cleverly hid in his art. In 1982, while everyone in Britain was still madly digging up hedgerows and pastures in search of the golden hare, The Secret: A Treasure Hunt was published in America. The previous year, author and publisher Byron Preiss had traveled to 12 locations in the continental U.S. (and possibly Canada) to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1984 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum. Preiss was killed in an auto accident in the summer of 2005, but the hunt for his casques continues.
