DOWNLOAD EBOOKOne of the most challenging and fascinating problems of the theory of neural nets is that of asymptotic behavior, of how a system behaves as time proceeds. This is of particular relevance to many practical applications. Here we focus on association, generalization, and representation. We turn to the last topic first. The introductory chapter, "Global Analysis of Recurrent Neural Net works," by Andreas Herz presents an in-depth analysis of how to construct a Lyapunov function for various types of dynamics and neural coding. It includes a review of the recent work with John Hopfield on integrate-and fire neurons with local interactions. The chapter, "Receptive Fields and Maps in the Visual Cortex: Models of Ocular Dominance and Orientation Columns" by Ken Miller, explains how the primary visual cortex may asymptotically gain its specific structure through a self-organization process based on Hebbian learning. His argu ment since has been shown to be rather susceptible to generalization.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th Annual European Symposium on Algorithms, ESA 2001, held in Aarhus, Denmark, in August 2001. The 41 revised full papers presented together with three invited contributions were carefully reviewed and selected from 102 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on caching and prefetching, online algorithms, data structures, optimization and approximation, sequences, scheduling, shortest paths, geometry, distributed algorithms, graph algorithms, pricing, broadcasting and multicasting, graph labeling and graph drawing, and graphs.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book is an analysis of our world's present condition seen from a spiritual vantage point. This holistic view exposes the major problems we face: arms budgets, twisted democracy, nuclear energy, overpopulation, giant cities, etc. and allows us to consider what the solutions might be. We cannot do this without the coherent and unified vision of the world that can be found in the tradition of Tao. This ageless wisdom offers a profound and little-known understanding of the origin and structure of the world. It gives us the means to understand what we are, what our destiny might be and how we might best live. Among the leads to follow to get us out of the mess we have created is the realization that our way of thinking is flawed when we restrict ourselves to rational thought at the expense of the mystical intimations necessary to save us and for us to be truly ourselves.
