Excerpt from General Catalogue, 1899 We believe that the function of a catalogue is to present to the customer the most recent and best appliances. In compact and convenient form for easy and quick reference. This has necessitated some restricted descriptions, but special circulars more fully describing many of the articles noted herein, will be furnished up on application. Simplicity and correctness have been the chief aim. Unusual care has been exercised in preparing the illustrations, many of the engravings being made direct from photographs of the articles, and in this man ner giving a much better idea of appearance and construction than would be possible with descriptive text alone. Many of the tables are new and original, and we believe they will prove of considerable value to our customers. Our Engineering Department is prepared to aid patrons with special diagrams, drawings or suggestions at any time. The very large stock of supplies carried, and our extensive manufacturing connections enable us to offer exceptional advantages in the prompt and complete shipment of orders. We thank you for your patronage in the past and trust we may merit an abundant share of it in the future. Excerpt from The Annual American Catalogue, 1899: Being the Full Titles, With Descriptive Notes, of All Books Recorded in the Publishers' Weekly, 1899, With Author, Title, and Subject Index, Publishers' Annual Lists and Directory of Publishers Yet another interesting point is brought out by our table. We hear much ill-informed talk about the Spring as a publishing season. Some self-appointed directors of public opinion in matters relating to the book trade assume that there is practically no Spring season. How far they are mistaken our table proves. As was to be expected, November is. In a publishing sense, the heaviest month of the year. It is forty ahead of October. But March stands third. Being only sixty-eight behind November February, April, and May are all heavy. June is practically on a level with December, and is ahead of September. A comparative study of the figures of each month for the last few years shows conclusively that publishers are more and more spreading their books over the whole year. Indeed, if the Christmas book - that is to say. The book for children - were eliminated, it would, we suspect, be found that in the more important works spring stands as high as au tumu. It is wise. We think, to avoid crowding too many books into a particular season. Dur ing November. Christmas books of course come pouring out. Since the Christmas trade is an130011 production IN 1899. Excerpt from Descriptive and Illustrative Catalogue, 1899 First introduced in 1893. Has stood the test very well, and proved to be an excellent variety. The following are a few points of excellence: It is very productive, having in all instances yielded more to the acre than any of the standard varieties, in one case it yielded 174 bushels from a Single bushel of seed. It is very early and has thus far proved itself rust-proof. It stands up remarkably well. On account of its thin hull, heavy meat and soft nib, it is a desirable variety for feeding. For oatmeal pr grinding purposes. It is exceptionably valuable. Choicest stock feed. The above is a description in a large seed catalogue. Will say that it is a very good oat and has, as is stated stood the test well. We have grown it for several years past and it has done well and it is a Splendid variety, and to those who want that kind will guarantee it genuine and pure. This variety enjoyed a larger popularity than any oats ever introduced. Our crop this year was exceptionably fine and of extra good quality. For the lighter clay they are 0. K. Price-peck 300; halt bushel, 500; bushel, 900; 2 or more bushels, 800 per bushel. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. We send you an acknowledgment of the receipt of your order the day it istaken from the mail, and advise you as to the exact date of your shipment and the route by which it comes, enabling you to be on the lookout for it and avoid all delay and unnecessary inconvenience.
