Deep within the volcanic rock of Mt. Kilamanjaro lie the Catacombs, the enormous hidden burial caves of a vanished African society more sophisticated and technologically advanced than ours. A civilization that has left the formula for present-day domination by a world power etched into blood-red diamonds––the rarest gemstones known. When a prestigious archaeological expedition discovers the valuable "bloodstones," the stage is set for a duel between agents of superpowers and powerful Africans that will be fought to the death deep within the caverns of the ancient "Lords of the Storm.

Excerpt from A Visit: To the Roman Catacombs My study of the Roman Catacombs began in 1846. Two years later I published a series of letters upon the subject in the Rambler, and the substance of these, with some additions and corrections, was collected into a small volume in 1856. This was translated both into French and German, and a second English edition was published in 1859. But in 1864 and 1867 the first two volumes of De Rossi's great work appeared; and these not only added indefinitely to our knowledge of particulars about the Catacombs, but also effected a complete revolution in the view to be taken of their history, and laid a new basis for the future study of them. Excerpt from Roma Sotterranea: Or an Account of the Roman Catacombs; Especially of the Cemetery of St. Callixtus The task which we have undertaken is now accomplished. \ve have placed within the reach of English readers as complete an account of the Roman Catacombs and their contents, more especially of the Catacomb of St. Callixtus, as we have been able to collect from the works of Com mendatore De Rossi. The present Part treats of ancient Christian art, on which it gives far more abundant infor mation than has ever before appeared in the English lan guage. This subject occupied only 130 pages, and was illustrated by 25 engravings, in our first edition. In the present edition it fills 360 pages, and receives more than 120 illustrations. The additional matter is, in the main, a mere record of facts. Future authors may combine, compare, and generalise these facts afresh, but it was first necessary that they should be collected. And we have. Spared no pains to make our collection as complete as possible, and to give our readers as fair an idea as we can of the originals.
