The Cardigan Welsh Corgi, commonly known as simply the 'Cardigan' or 'Cardi, ' is one of the oldest herding breeds that originated from Whales, in the United Kingdom. The breed is believed to be well over 3,000 years old! The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is believed to be descended from the Teckel family of dogs, which also produced the Dachshund breed. The breed is one of two separate breeds that are known as 'Welsh Corgis, ' the other breed is the 'Pembroke Welsh Corgi.' Originally the Cardigan Welsh Corgi was used as a farm guardian but eventually developed the traits of a cattle drovers and herders. In modern times the Cardigan Welsh Corgi is mainly kept as a domesticated companion dog but is also still employed on farms primarily in herding based activities.
