This is the first volume - design criteria - of a four-volume series on building your own hot-air balloon. The author is an expert balloon pilot and experienced balloon builder, and nothing is left out.
More than a century before the Wright brothers’ first flight, humans were taking to the skies in hot air balloons. Today, with basic craft skills, you can build and safely launch your own balloons using inexpensive, readily available materials. Author and inventor Clive Catterall provides illustrated, step-by-step instructions for eight different homemade models, as well as the science and history behind them. Some, like the Solar Tetroon or the Trash Bag Sausage, are made from plastic bags and tape. Others, like the Khom Loi or the Kongming Lantern, are built using tissue paper and wire. The Hot Air Balloon Book also shows readers ways to heat the interior air that lifts these balloons, from tea candles to hair dryers, kitchen toasters to the sun’s warming rays. Always keeping safety in mind, the author includes detailed guidelines on when and where open flames are appropriate and the proper weather conditions to launch these lighter-than-air craft.
This is the final volume (Appendices) of the series Build Your Own Hot-Air Balloon. Unlike the other volumes (I-III), it does not cover only hot air balloons, but rather discusses gas balloons and the spherical enveloped generally used for them. The information in this volume is NOT needed to complete a hot-air balloon project, although there is some coverage of one-man (harness type) hot air balloons.
This is Volume III - Plans & Construction - of a four-volume (three volumes plus an Appendix) series: Build Your Own Hot-Air Balloon, written by an experienced builder and pilot after many years of work in the field, and originally published in the 1970s and early 1980s.
"It all starts with a mysterious mail delivery, a little girl with a big imagination, and a sprinkling of twinkling glitter. Before long there's glitter here, glitter there--glitter, glitter everywhere! But just when she's about to add more glitter, the little girl realizes maybe there is such a thing as too much bling when you and your best pal start to get lost in it..."-- Amazon.com.
A heartwarming picture book from award-winning author-illustrator Caroline Magerl about two unlikely loners who forge a forever friendship. Nop is a scruffy kind of bear. He sits on a dusty armchair in Oddmint's Dumporeum surrounded and ignored by the other heaping heaps of goods. At night, they are magically transformed by the beaders, knitters, patchers and stitchers and the next day go on to 'someplace wonderful'. Nop watches the heap tumble until, armed with a new bow tie, he has an idea that will change his life forever. A tale about finding the magic that lives inside even the scruffiest of bears.
Twenty-three billowing, brightly colored images of hot air balloons float skyward in this delightful sticker collection. Covered with vivid stripes, stars, and zigzagging patterns, they'll add whimsy and sparkle to notes, cards, gift packages, and so many other items with a flat surface.
