"The Buffalo Braves of the NBA may be gone, but they aren’t forgotten. Authors Budd Bailey and Greg D. Tranter bring the team back to life, at least in literary form, with their book, “Buffalo Braves From A to Z.” It’s a thorough examination of the team’s history from 1970 to 1978, and contains biographies of all 71 players and 12 front office figures who were crucial parts of the team’s story. The publication, printed by St. Johann Press, offers the most thorough examination of this star-crossed franchise ever published. The book contains year-by-year descriptions of the team’s play, as well as descriptions of Buffalo’s basketball history and the team’s homes. The Braves played a style of basketball that would have fit in nicely with today’s game, with its emphasis on ball movement and offense. The team featured such familiar names as Bob McAdoo, Randy Smith, Ernie DiGregorio and Adrian Dantley. The book captures their era perfectly." -- Amazon.com.

The Seasons of Buffalo Baseball 1857-2020 is a collaborative efforts that draws from the 1985 book, The Seasons of Buffalo Baseball by Joseph M. Overfield. His son, Jim, updated and revised his dad's book into a richly illustrated, 400-page 8x10-inch book that updates the history of professional baseball in Buffalo through the 2020 season, which was cancelled for the Triple A Bisons because of the COVID-19 but includes a summary of the Toronto Blue Jays' home away from home in Buffalo during the summer because of the pandemic. That marked the return of major league baseball to Buffalo since the city had a franchise in the Federal League in 1905. Part One of the book is a year-by-year summary of each season from 1857 through 2020, complete with the team's manager, league, record, leading hitter, home run hitter and pitcher. Part Two is a collection of stories from Joe and Jim Overfield, Brian M. Frank and Michael J. Billoni, Assistant Editors of the book, along with Paul Langendorfer, Budd Bailey, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News, Sal Maiorana of Rochester's Democrat and Chronicle and former WGRZ-TV sportscaster Jonah Javad, a sportscaster at WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas. There are also cartoons illustrated by Mike "Ricig" Ricigliano and more than 200 black and white and color photos. The book honors the memory of Joe Overfield, the former historian of the Buffalo Bisons and a member of the Greater Buffalo and Buffalo Baseball Halls of Fame. It is also a tribute to the resilience of the City of Buffalo and that game that has been part of the city's fabric for more than 160 years. Among those who have written testimonials are John Thorn, official historian of Major League Baseball; Chris Berman, ESPN Sports Broadcaster; Bob Costas, multiple Emmy award-winning sports broadcaster; Ken Rosenthal, baseball writer for The Athletic and Fox Sports and Pete Weber, the Voice of the Nashville Preditors of the NHL and the former Voice of the Bisons and Greg Brown, the Voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the former Bisons broadcaster.

With Rebel Falls, Tim Wendel takes us to late summer of 1864. The Civil War rages on. Sherman is marching on Atlanta, while the armies of Grant and Lee battle across Virginia. In the North, war-weariness has made Lincoln's bid for reelection seem doubtful. As the fate of the nation "conceived in Liberty" hangs in the balance, Confederate agents gather in Niagara Falls to plan one last audacious maneuver to turn the tide of the conflict. Rory Chase, a capable yet haunted young woman eager to contribute to the Union cause, accepts a mission from the Secretary of State, William Seward, to travel to Niagara Falls and prevent two rebel spies, John Yates Beall and Bennet Burley, from seizing the U.S.S. Michigan on Lake Erie and bombarding Buffalo, Cleveland, and other northern cities to sow fear and disorder ahead of the upcoming election. To succeed, Rory must gain the rebel spies' trust and, with the help of the Underground Railroad network still operating out of the elegant Cataract House hotel overlooking the Falls, foil their desperate gambit. But can she maintain the pretense of being a Confederate sympathizer long enough to unravel Beall and Burley's ingenious plot? With actual events underpinning the tumultuous story in Rebel Falls, a forgotten chapter in the history of the Civil War is revealed. Far from frontlines, Wendel's exciting, character-driven narrative about a consequential struggle in the shadow of Niagara Falls' dramatic beauty is gripping from start to finish.

In a year shaped by national tragedy, baseball was shaped by amazing pitching--culminating in a victory by a Detroit Tigers team that faced off against Bob Gibson's St. Louis Cardinals, the 1967 World Series defending champions.
