This community has been described by Tiedemann and Klock (1977) as Artemisia rigida/stipa occidentalis/ Phlox diffusa. Artemisia arbuscula is the most common shrub, although it accounts for less that 5 percent of the canopy cover. Sedum stenopeta/um is the most abun dant herb; it averages 5 percent cover and 100 percent frequency throughout the community (tiedemann and Klock Grasses such as Stipa occidentalis var.
