They declare, upon their honour, that the narrative has been printed from the manuscript which was begun and finished under their eyes, and was given into their hands for the signal mani testation of the truth the only alterations made, have been the correction of some grammatical errors, and of the spelling of some words-the Duke of Normandy having in some measure forgotten his mother tongue, of which, however, all the charact eristics may be traced, a circumstance which cannot occur but in the writ ings of a native Frenchman.
