In Look Homeward, America, Bill Kauffman introduces us to the reactionary radicals, front-porch anarchists, and traditionalist rebels who give American culture and politics its pith, vim, and life. Kauffman limns an alternative America that draws its breath from local cultures, traditional liberties, small-scale institutions, and neighborliness. There is an America left that is worth saving: these are its paragons, its poets, its pantheon.

A puzzle, a work of art, and a collection of classic American songs, all in an innovative book by one of the world's foremost contemporary artists. Every page of this book is filled with secret code. It seems like Chinese calligraphy, but it’s not. It seems like you can’t read it, but you can. Once the pieces of the puzzle start falling into place, you will understand it all. And some of it may even strike you as strangely familiar . . . Twelve traditional American songs, such as "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and "Yankee Doodle," as well as five classic songs from Chinese culture, are written here in artist Xu Bing's unique "square word calligraphy," which uses one-block words made of English letters. From a distance, these pieces are beautiful but unintelligible art. Up close, they are a mystery just waiting to be solved—like the fine art version of "Magic Eye." For readers ages 7 and up, Look! What Do You See? is perfect for long car rides or coded notes to friends. Incredibly intricate and visually engaging, this is a book that children and adults will return to again and again.

The author of Foreign Gods, Inc. and Arrows of Rain tells his own immigrant’s tale, where what is lost in translation is often as hilarious as it is harrowing. Okey Ndibe’s funny, charming, and penetrating memoir tells of his move from Nigeria to America, where he came to edit the influential—but forever teetering on the verge of insolvency—African Commentary magazine. It recounts stories of Ndibe’s relationships with Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, and other literary figures; examines the differences between Nigerian and American etiquette and politics; recalls an incident of racial profiling just thirteen days after he arrived in the US, in which he was mistaken for a bank robber; considers American stereotypes about Africa (and vice-versa); and juxtaposes African folk tales with Wall Street trickery. All these stories and more come together in a generous, encompassing book about the making of a writer and a new American.

Believe it or not, an American president was arrested for running over a woman with his horse. He was not the only one to be arrested (two more were). George Washington preferred fox hunting with his dogs than going to church. Young Abraham Lincoln fell into a deep ditch and was saved by his dog. And after he was assassinated, his dog `Fido’ also was assassinated. Who was the President who worked as a bartender? And the one who once officially served as an executioner? The President of the United States is considered one of the world's most powerful people, leading the world’s only current superpower. His role includes being the commander-in-chief of the world's most expensive military with the largest nuclear arsenal with the nuclear button on his desk. This book is the result of over a decade of research and writing. It is a comprehensive compendium - a single-volume book, about the 44 men the entire world looked upon as the most powerful men in the world. 44 men who formed the 45 presidencies of the United States of America through 58 quadrennial presidential elections in the 230 years from 1789. This book covers the presidency of the successful liquor distributor and owner of a distillery George Washington, to the presidency of Donald Trump, the oldest, wealthiest man without any prior military or government service experience to ever assume the presidency.

The last six words in the Pledge of Allegiance, “With liberty and justice for all,” continue to ring hollow for many Americans and will continue to do so until it becomes clear to all Americans that it is as difficult for the African American community to see justice in the continued murders of unarmed black men at the hands of men and women in blue as it was for white America to see justice in the acquittal of O. J. Simpson in the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson twenty-plus years ago. Silent Terrorism, A Look at American Racism and Hypocrisy was written in hopes of opening dialogue and stimulating conversation about race in America. I have been blessed to travel to many countries outside the United States of America, giving me a very good understanding and appreciation of the benefits of being born a citizen of the greatest country in the world. As great as this nation is as a whole, as honorable as its ideals are, the founding fathers left huge holes in its foundation related to race and racism which continue to divide our nation today. The tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) used by racist men in our society today differ from those of their forefathers. Their TTPs continue to evolve, change and are embedded in every facet of our lives, our justice system and our government which, from its inception, has been a state sponsor of terrorism (racism) within its borders. One can argue that many of the atrocities committed by the founding fathers and other immigrants from Great Britain were necessary to establish and build this nation; that excuse cannot be used to explain the continued racism, voter disenfranchisement, repealing of the Voting Rights Act, many of today's laws, and a grand jury system that continues to allow for the murders of unarmed black Americans. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, said “most of the black scientists in this country do not come from the most advanced schools” and black students do better at “slower tracked schools.” Scalia continued to express his racist views from the bench when he said students of color are being “pushed into schools that are too advanced for them” due to race-conscious affirmative action policies.

"“The most realistic look yet at astronaut life.” —Chicago Sun-Times “The best of all the astronaut books...” —Los Angeles Times The All-American Boys is a no-holds-barred candid memoir by a former Marine jet jockey and physicist who became NASA's second civilian astronaut. Walter Cunningham presents the astronauts in all their glory in this dramatically revised and updated edition that was considered an instant classic in its first edition over two decades ago. From its insider's view of the pervasive ""astropolitics"" that guided the functioning of the astronaut corps to its thoughtful discussion of the Columbia tragedy, The All-American Boys resonates with Cunningham's passion for humanity's destiny in space which endures today. This is a story of the triumph of American heroes. Cunningham brings us into NASA's training program and reveals what it takes to be an astronaut. He poignantly relates the story of the devastating Apollo 1 fire that took the lives of three astronauts and his own later successful flight on Apollo 7. This new edition includes an update of the manned space program and his ""tell it like it is"" observation of NASA's successes and failures. It also includes commentary on the Shuttle disasters of Challenger and Columbia and his views on what NASA should be doing to get back on track and to regain public support.
