After retiring to Cyprus and looking forward to a life of leisure, a neighbour told me the donkey sanctuary was losing their farrier and was I interested! This was the beginning of my second career as a farrier in Cyprus that led me to some way out places, and to meeting some really interesting people. Also I was asked if I could shoe a horse which snowballed into horseshoeing the length and breadth of Cyprus and over the border into the Turkish area too. My work all came from recommendations. I did try to control my work to two or three days a week as i wanted to follow other leisure activities. Some weeks though, that plan went out of the window. One leisure activity I did get involved with was a writers group. For years I had always wanted to write a book about my life as a farrier, but it was always going to be tomorrow when I would start it. I had told God knows how many folk over the years that one day I would write a book but it certainly wasn't going to be today as I had no idea how to go about it. That changed when I met the chairman of Paphos writers group and told him about my plans to write about my farrier life, one day he said; ''Well it is no good talking about it. I hope to see you at our groups meeting at 10 o'clock tomorrow. That morning was the ''tomorrow'' that had finally come to start writing my first book; All clenched up and nearly finished.'' Now I write regularly and my second book ''All clenched up and finally finished'' is published.

The words never came and they never left my mouth, instead I just pressed my lips against his and kissed him more passionately than I have ever kissed in my entire life. All of the pain, jealousy, and attraction that I had to hide from myself came bubbling to the surface and I couldn’t help myself from finally giving in. At first, he was shocked by my embrace, but he began to move his soft lips against mine. He wrapped his arms around my body and leaned back, pulling me on top of him as his hands roamed over my backside. His touch was electric and he left a trail of goosebumps everywhere his fingertips grazed. I felt as if I were in a dream again. His kiss grew deeper before he gently bit my lip. I moaned as he...

“I'm never going to date again!” Sarah swore vehemently, standing in the middle of their hotel room, objecting to her best friend Callie's insistence on a “girl's night out.” “I'm going to join a nunnery, stave off men altogether. So I most certainly have no interest in hanging out at a bar where there will be scumbags aplenty,” she insisted petulantly. It really wasn't all men that Sarah was exasperated with, but rather the string of men she'd managed to attract who should have come with warning signs, like “Scumbag King,” “Super Sloth,” or “Lying, Cheating Dirt-bag.” “I'm not trying to find you a husband, Sarah...just a good lay. Or hell, a little flirting is fine with me,” Callie explained patiently. “You've been out of the game for months now. And I get it, you had some bad luck. But, it's time to get back on the horse—at least long enough to take one out for a ride.” Bad luck was an understatement in Sarah's opinion. In the past three years since graduating from college, she'd wound up dating a gambler who had maxed out her credit cards behind her back, and a deadbeat who, it turned out, was not a video game designer as he had said, but rather a fanatical video game player. The latest in her string of “bad luck,” a compulsive cheater who couldn't keep it in his pants—even in the midst of her twenty-fifth birthday celebration. She'd darted off to her bedroom to look for a sweater and ended up finding her sister riding her boyfriend like he was a bucking stallion. “Is this the line for pony rides?” Sarah had asked dryly before turning around and walking out of the house. She wasn't angry at her sister; Liz hadn't known the scumbag was her...

With little more than a run–down Jeep and their newborn baby in tow, author Micah Perks' parents set out in 1963 to build a school and a utopian community in the mountains. The school would become known as a place to send teens with drug addictions and emotional problems, children with whom Micah and her sister would grow up. This complex memoir mixes a moving celebration of the utopian spirit and its desire for community and freedom with a lacerating critique of the consequences of those desires — especially for the children involved. How could the campaign for a perfect home and family create such confusion and destruction? The '60s, for many, became a laboratory of hope and chaos, as young idealists tested the limits of possibility. Micah Perks has cast her unflinching and precise eye on her own history and has illuminated not only those years of her childhood, but a wide–open moment that marked our culture for all time.
