We are only now coming to terms with how common trauma really is; a landmark Kaiser study that surveyed patients receiving physicals found that almost two-thirds had experienced at least one form of abuse, neglect, or other trauma as a child. Though originating in the fields of health and social services, trauma-informed care is a framework that holds great promise for application to library work. Empathetic service, positive patron encounters, and a more trusting workplace are only a few of the benefits that this approach offers. In this important book Tolley, experienced in both academic and public libraries, brings these ideas into the library context. Library administrators, directors, and reference and user services staff will all benefit from learning - the six key principles of trauma-informed care; - characteristics of a trusting and transparent library organization, plus discussion questions to promote a sense of psychological safety among library workers; - how certain language and labels can undermine mutuality, with suggested phrases that will help library staff demonstrate neutrality to patron ideas and views during information requests; - delivery models that empower patrons; - advice on balancing free speech on campus with students’ need for safety; - how appropriate furniture arrangement can help people suffering from PTSD feel safe; - guidance on creating safe zones for LGBTQIA+ children, teens, and adults; and - self-assessment tools to support change toward trauma-responsive library services. Using the trauma-informed approach outlined in this book, libraries can ensure they are empathetic community hubs where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and safe.

"Depending on the structure of a library, acquisitions may involve or work with collection management, subject librarians, electronic resources, preservation, cataloging, and library administration due to the management and use of collection materials budgets. Acquisitions staff will also be involved in working with material library vendors. Taking on acquisitions responsibilities requires learning how to order materials in a variety of formats; learning basic accounting and budgeting practices; a knowledge of institutional fiscal and procurement policies and practices; along with strong communication skills as acquisitions librarians truly interact with staff in all library departments, as well as outside vendors. Some aspects of the work, such as managing collection budgets, allocations, expenditures, and encumbrances can at times be daunting, especially when end-of-year deadlines are looming. However, the variety of responsibilities that come with acquisitions make this one of the most rewarding service points in a library. If you have just taken on acquisitions responsibilities, you will want to understand the basic concepts and philosophy behind acquisitions work and develop an understanding for the day-to-day workflow"--

This book, the third book in the four-volume series in algebra, deals with important topics in homological algebra, including abstract theory of derived functors, sheaf co-homology, and an introduction to etale and l-adic co-homology. It contains four chapters which discuss homology theory in an abelian category together with some important and fundamental applications in geometry, topology, algebraic geometry (including basics in abstract algebraic geometry), and group theory. The book will be of value to graduate and higher undergraduate students specializing in any branch of mathematics. The author has tried to make the book self-contained by introducing relevant concepts and results required. Prerequisite knowledge of the basics of algebra, linear algebra, topology, and calculus of several variables will be useful.

Justification as Ignorance offers an original account of epistemic justification as both non-factive and luminous, vindicating core internalist intuitions without construing justification as an internal condition knowable by reflection alone. Sven Rosenkranz conceives of justification, in its doxastic and propositional varieties, as a kind of epistemic possibility of knowing and of being in a position to know. His account contrasts with recent alternative views that characterize justification in terms of the metaphysical possibility of knowing. Instead, he develops a suitable non-normal multi-modal epistemic logic for knowledge and being in a position to know that respects the finding that these notions create hyperintensional contexts. He also defends his conception of justification against well-known anti-luminosity arguments, shows that the account allows for fruitful applications and principled solutions to the lottery and preface paradoxes, and provides a metaphysics of justification and its varying degrees of strength that is compatible with core assumptions of the knowledge-first approach and disjunctivist conceptions of mental states.
