First published in 1905, A Thief in the Night is the third collection of stories detailing the exploits and intrigues of gentleman thief A. J. Raffles in late Victorian England. In public a popular sportsman, in private a cunning burglar with a weakness for valuable jewelery, Arthur Raffles, with the help of his side-kick Bunny Manders, always manages to thwart the investigations of Scotland Yard's Inspector Mackenzie. Popular in its day, this is the last collection of short stories about E. W. Hornung's most famous character - followed only by a novel, Mr. Justice Raffles.

A Thief in the Night is an evangelical Christian film series about the Rapture, Tribulation, and Second Coming of Christ. It consists of four films: A Thief in the Night (1972), A Distant Thunder (1978), Image of the Beast (1981), and The Prodigal Planet (1983). The series focuses on the difficulties of those who miss out on the Rapture by having not trusted Jesus as savior and thus find themselves in the Tribulation. Interspersed throughout the four films are many presentations of the Christian gospel.

A Thief in the Night by E. W. Hornung Chronicler and accomplice Bunny Manders recounts other adventures he had previously omitted at various points in their criminal career. All but the last two stories take place while A. J. Raffles and Bunny Manders are still respectable gentlemen and Raffles is still an amateur cricketer living in Albany rooms. The two remaining stories take place after Raffles and Bunny become professional criminals with tainted reputations: the penultimate story follows the events of "An Old Flame", and the final story takes place after the events of "The Knees of the Gods" . All stories are largely self-contained and independent, with the exception of the last story, which serves as an epilogue to the events explored in the first story. Each story was first published in serial format, with the exception of "The Last Word" which is a short epilogue to the events of "Out of Paradise".

A Thief in the Night Is A Book of Raffles' Adventures By E.W. Hornung. One of the reasons that the Raffles stories remain popular is that Hornung makes no attempt to paint either Raffles, or his accomplice Bunny, as saints. They steal from the innocent as well as the greedy, and they are entirely prepared to kill if necessary. Nevertheless, Raffles is always portrayed as charismatic, the kind of man people follow blindly against all sense.
