DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from A Text Book of Materia Medica, Pharmacology, and Special Therapeutics, With Many New Remedies, of Late Introduction: Designed as a Text Book for the Student, and as a Ready Reference for the Practitioner; A Compend of Materia Medica, Written With Especial Reference to the More Direct or Positive Action of Medicines, and the Introduction of New Ones HE only apology the author has to offer for presenting this little Compend, is, that it presents the leading truths of the science upon which it treats, in a concise form, and gives also the experience of the author, with that of many of the best therapeutists of the world. Designed as it is, as a text-book for students, yet it will serve to refresh the memory of the physician. The leading facts and principles usually embraced in larger works on the subject, and those usually taught in medical schools, are treated of in a concise form, unencumbered with needless hypothetical speculations. The design of this work is to give the more direct action of the remedies treated of, rather than to amplify in the field of supposition. For the therapeutic action of medicines, I acknowledge my indebted ness to Headland's work on the Action of Medicines, Ringer, Brunton, and also to other leading works upon Therapeutics and Materia Medica. Special notice is given to new and indi genous remedies, and the proper mode of preparing them, so as to have them of uniform strength. The dose, as named, is often larger than is required in ordinary practice. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from A Text-Book of Materia Medica: Pharmacology and Therapeutics The book is the fruit of some twenty years' experience in teach ing therapeutics and clinical medicine, and many years of private and institutional practice. It has been my effort to embody as much as possible of this experience in a condensed, carefully classified, and usable form. Above everything else, I desire this book to be practical rather than theoretical. It is important not only that the student should acquire the largest amount pos sible of knowledge of the remedies which he expects to use in the practice of medicine, but also that this knowledge should be systematically and logically arranged, so that it may become immediately available. I believe that the classification which I have adopted particularly lends itself to that end, and that it will greatly facilitate the study of this important branch of medicine. While the needs of the student have been kept in the fore ground, I have not forgotten the demands which are made upon it by the practising physician. I have, therefore, endeavored to make the subject-matter as complete and as detailed as the size of such a work will permit, and to give Special prominence to the therapeutic sections. In this field I have drawn largely upon my own experience, not forgetting the larger mine of current medical literature.
