Excerpt from A Commentary Expository and Devotional on the Order of the Administration of the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion According to the Use of the Church of England That Hymn is called by the Rabbins the Hallel, ' and was from the beginning of Psalm cxiii. To the end of Psalm cxviii., which they cut in two parts and a part of it they repeated in the very middle of the Banquet, and they reserved a part to the end. The hymn, which christ now sang with his disciples after meat, was the latter part. It is true, no doubt, as the reviewer intimates, that the Hallel was also said at the slaying of the Paschal Lamb, which was done in the Court of the Temple. Every company said over the Hallel three times 3 for their Paschals were many, and they were bound to the saying over the Hallel at the slaying of them. AS regards the Great Hallel (which was different from the common or Egyptian one), there appears to have been a question among Jewish Doctors of what Psalms it consisted.
