'The Bible of Irish income tax...' - Irish Independent, 28 January 2018 Tom Maguire's annual publication on Irish income tax is the long-established leading authority in the area. This immensely popular tax essential is the number one income tax book for tax practitioners, accountants and tax lawyers. Indispensable in practice, it will help you to apply the relevant legislation with ease and precision. It endeavours to provide a complete analysis of the principles and practice of income tax in the Republic of Ireland. This new edition is based on the Finance Act 2020. It also provides an examination of recent key decisions by the courts both here and in the UK, as well as by the Tax Appeal Commissioners. The 2021 edition deals with changes in relation to pandemic unemployment payments, the dependent relative tax credit and the mobility allowance. In particular the new edition examines the impact of the Covid Restrictions Support Scheme, which is available to eligible businesses who carry on an activity that is impacted by the Covid-19 Restrictions.
In Who Will Build the Ark?, leading radical thinkers debate left alternatives to runaway global heating, capitalist crisis and wider environmental breakdown, clarifying the stakes in today's key disputes between Green New Deal supporters and proponents of 'degrowth'. In a series of landmark texts first published by New Left Review, Herman Daly and Benjamin Kunkel discusses the possibility of an egalitarian, steady-state economy, while Robert Pollin warns against the worldwide slump 'degrowth' could bring and calls instead for a single-issue campaign - 2 per cent of global GDP dedicated to the switch to renewable energy - as the swiftest solution to the emissions crisis. Nancy Fraser envisages an eco-socialist exit from capitalism's multifold crises, while Troy Vettese advocates eco-austerity and half-earth rewilding. Lola Seaton draws out the strategic implications of these contested perspectives, in a set of unavoidable 'green questions'. In the realm of contemporary politics, Alyssa Battistoni writes on the dead-end of COP diplomacy, Cdric Durand asks whether energy shortages will derail the transition away from fossil fuels, and Thomas Meaney compares Green New Deal proposals to the pinched reality of Biden's Inflation Reduction Act. The world's major powers accept the likelihood of dangerous climate change, yet seem incapable of averting it. Can radical green models generate the social leverage needed to do so? Or, as Mike Davis puts it: Who will build the Ark?
Data plays a vital role in different parts of our lives. In the world of big data, and policy determined by a variety of statistical artifacts, discussions around the ethics of data gathering, manipulation and presentation are increasingly important. Ethics in Statistics aims to make a significant contribution to that debate. The processes of gathering data through sampling, summarising of the findings, and extending results to a population, need to be checked via an ethical prospective, as well as a statistical one. Statistical learning without ethics can be harmful for mankind. This edited collection brings together contributors in the field of data science, data analytics and statistics, to share their thoughts about the role of ethics in different aspects of statistical learning.
Instead of adapting to the changing climate, all the relevant groups in German society have joined forces to combat climate change. No attempt has been made to avoid technical efforts or costly measures. The energy transition and the Green Deal have tremendous consequences for the state, society and individuals. Public debate has tended to ignore these consequences and has failed to consider the cost. Dr. Fabian Brunner analyses the mode of operation of the energy transition and comes to the conclusion that it has set in motion a spiral that will fundamentally transform the German economic system rather than the global climate. Not only the climate has "points of no return" after which interventions will no longer be possible. This also applies to the economy – when these points have been passed, it will no longer be possible to prevent an ext- reme loss of prosperity for future generations.
