Other Douthits, spelled various ways, had already emigrated. John Douthit, Sr. settled at Monocacy, Maryland, where he married Mary Scott in 1738. He moved to Anson County, North Carolina in 1750/1751, and later became a Moravian (members of this church settled nearby in 1753).
