DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe War of 1812 was fought by eighteen states--the original thirteen states that formed the Union, as well as Vermont, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Louisiana. In the preparation of this work, the compiler surveyed the records of the National Archives, as well as many of the libes and archives of the eighteen states in which fatalities were recorded. The end result is an authoritative list of some 3,500 known military dead of the War of 1812. The entries, which are alphabetically arranged, give the name of the deceased, his rank, the name of his company or branch of service, his date of death, and an indication as to whether the individual died in battle or as a prisoner of war.

DOWNLOAD EBOOK"The grave markers of Wicomico County are more than genealogical records. They are records of custom, fashion, economic conditions, even the twang of Wicomico County speech. "Through them the settlement and movement of families can be traced. Epidemics that swept the area. The storms that blasted it. The wars that plagued it. Through our grave markers is revealed much of the history of two hundred years of Wicomico County living as well as dying." "The earliest death in the county marked by a still readable inscription dates from 1739..." Most entries are from the 1800s. A full name index adds to the value of this work.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKNormandy, Flanders Field and other overseas cemeteries of the American Battle Monument Commission (ABMC) are well known. However, lesser-known burial sites of American war dead exist all over the world--in Australia and across the Pacific Rim, in Canada and Mexico, Libya and Spain, most of Europe and as far north as the Russian Arctic. This is the history of American soldiers buried abroad since the American Revolution. It traces the evolution of American attitudes and practices about war dead and provides the names and locations of those still buried abroad in non-ABMC locations.
