The Green Berets, Seals, Delta Force - an inside glimpse of the equipment, weapons, and technology comprising the shadowy world of these elite warriors. These amazing reference works achieve what other visual dictionaries simply aspire to. They remain the only full-color photographic lexicons available, because their Eyewitness blend of text and image is virtually inimitable. First depicting "whole" objects, the format then "explodes" them, detailing the tiniest features with labels and annotation that build into a 3,000-word specialized vocabulary on the subject. The Eyewitness Visual Dictionaries differ from the Eyewitness books in that the text is longer and the vocabulary more difficult ... The photographs are outstanding ... The brief text compresses many details into a few sentences, The vocabulary is scholarly ... and charts combined with the text give a clear overview of the subject[s]."

"Warspeak," the language of the military, can be for many civilians and for members of differing services an unintelligible hodgepodge of acronyms, slang terms and field operation expressions. Few laypersons may know that the Five F's is a derogatory expression, though Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, Coast Guard and others know or can infer that "chairborn commandos" are administrative and support personnel. The more than 15,000 entries in this comprehensive dictionary provide an inside look at the United States military. Weapons systems, governmental agencies, electronic warfare, medical terms, military infrastructure, communications, satellites and intelligence systems are among the topics covered in-depth. Also detailed are the acronyms and slang terms used by the soldiers in the field. The work provides numerous cross references for ease of use, along with a bibliography of over 2,200 sources.

The full story of Aston House in the Second World War has never been told before. Its activities were top secret and as important to the Allied war effort as those of Bletchley Park, but in a different way. Situated near Stevenage, Aston House was one of many British country houses requisitioned during the Second World War by the Special Operations Executive (SOE). Born out of Bletchley Park, where it began life as SIS Section 'D' (for Destruction), Station 12's scientific and military personnel invented, made and supplied 'toys' for the Commandos, Special Boat Service, SAS, and resistance groups. Included in their deadly arsenal of weapons were plastic explosives, limpet mines, pressure switches, tree spigots, incendiary bombs, incendiary liquids and arrows, and a variety of time fuses. They worked on the tools for famous operations, such as the St Nazaire and Dieppe Raids, and the assassination of Himmler's deputy in Prague. Also revealed are the human stories of personnel stationed in this extremely remote village and the explosive pranks they played on each other, and certain visitors, which add some light relief to their destructive purpose.
