This book analyses the international phenomenon of private peace entrepreneurs. These are private citizens with no official authority who initiate channels of communication with official representatives from the other side of a conflict in order to promote a conflict resolution process. It combines theoretical discussion with historical analysis, examining four cases from different conflicts: Norman Cousins and Suzanne Massie in the Cold War, Brendan Duddy in the Northern Ireland conflict and Uri Avnery in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The book defines the phenomenon, examines the resources and activities of private peace entrepreneurs and their impact on the official diplomacy, and examines the conditions under which they can play an effective role in peace-making processes. This book is relevant to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16, Peace, justice and strong institutions

This book has a simple philosophy that makes it uniquely different in the market. It makes managing change real, relevant and practical; and It makes it simple to find what you are looking for. This book is not intended to be a textbook on managing change, per se, for two reasons: firstly, which practicing manager has the time to read a text book? And secondly, just because its a textbook doesnt mean the answers that managers may have are readily available especially when needed by the manager. Many organizations not only have internal skilled resources to draw on for the conduct of change projects, but they also have the resources to hire expensive change consultants when needed. But what about those companies that dont have the internal resources to expertly handle change projects and that dont have the funds to pay expensive consultants? This book addresses this gap. It also provides invaluable assistance to all managers, since all managers need to manage change; and all change consultants, because there are very few who know it all or have all the answers. This book does not align itself to any particular school of thought regarding the management of change; however it does draw on the practical experience of professionals in the area - as well as fundamental principles common to many change methodologies.

'As they often do, Jamie Morrison and Alexander Sarris have provided researchers, policy-makers, and the interested public with the firm empirical grounding needed for sound agricultural development policies. They have synthesized from a rich and varied set of country studies a unique contribution to one of the key challenges of our times increasing the productivity of smallholder food production in the age of globalization.' Timothy A. Wise, Tufts University, US 'Food security has been a major concern in Africa for decades, and a more pressing problem with recent increases in food prices. The editors and contributors to this volume are experts in the field and should be commended for a timely, informative and in places challenging analysis of food production and markets in eastern and southern Africa. The volume brings a refreshing variety of theoretical, analytical and informed case study approaches to bear on the food security problem; it should be read by anybody seriously interested in African development.' Oliver Morrissey, University of Nottingham, UK Drawing on insights from theoretical applications, empirically based approaches and case study experience, this book contributes to the improved design and use of trade and related policy interventions in staple food markets. Trade policy interventions have a potentially critical role to play in the development of staple food markets in developing countries and, as a source of revenue, in wider processes of rural development. Governments have long defended trade and related policy interventions in staple food markets on the basis of food security concerns. However, the design and implementation of these policies has often resulted in unintended impacts, increasing the risks faced by private sector actors and reducing their incentives for investment in improved market performance. In the context of increasingly volatile staple food markets, this book, commissioned from leading experts in this field, seeks to enhance dialogue between stakeholders involved in, and affected by, the design and use of trade and related policy interventions. This significant book will appeal to policy analysts and decision makers influential in the design and implementation of trade and related market interventions, as well as students of development economics. Researchers contributing to debates on the use and impacts of trade and related market interventions in staple food markets in poor countries will also find this volume of great benefit.

Until recently, generational studies of Communist countries have concentrated primarily on elite changes. Little attention has been paid to the changes within the general public. This study is designed to fill this gap. It reports on: (1) the socio-economic resources of different generations, especially their educational achievements; (2) the psychological resources for people in different generations to get involved in politics; (3) their political resources; and (4) their political participation. The text concludes with an appraisal of the changes among different generations that would help the reader to understand the changes in Chinese society.
