The understanding of diagnostic lymph node and spleen pathology has evolved at an impressive pace since 1995, when the third series AFIP atlas was published. Progress has been fuelled, in large part, by the application of a number of technologies to the study of hematopoietic neoplasms. The World Health Organization (WHO) classification scheme for hematologic neoplasms has captured much of this progress, and is generally accepted for clinical practice. The current volume, part of the fourth series of atlases, integrates the WHO classification, including the 2016 revision, and highlights areas in which the WHO classification is likely to evolve with time. In keeping with the goals and tradition of the atlases, this volume emphasizes morphological features of hematopoietic neoplasms, and includes a discussion of differential diagnoses for each disease category. In addition, the results of immunophenotypic and molecular genetic testing for each disease are highlighted, including findings generated by using high-throughput techniques that likely will be integrated into standard diagnostics in the near future. Overall, this atlas will provide readers with the comprehensive information necessary for the pathological and clinical assessment of lymph node and splenic lesions.

Additionally, as with our other Diagnostic Pathology titles, chapters include definitions, terminology, etiologies and pathogenesis, demographics, clinical presentations, therapy, prognoses, radiologic imaging, pathology, and differential diagnoses. The pathologic features are extensively detailed with descriptions of macroscopic features, microscopic findings, cytopathology, and ancillary studies. The immune system employs TLOs to elicit highly localized and forceful responses to unresolvable peripheral tissue inflammation. Current data indicate that TLOs are protective but they may also lead to collateral tissue injury and serve as nesting places to generate autoreactive lymphocytes. A better comprehension of these powerhouses of disease immunity will likely facilitate development to unprecedented and specific therapies to fight chronic inflammatory diseases.

This book focuses on standard operative techniques for important diseases in pediatric surgery, especially in neonates and infants, while also offering a wealth of schematic drawings and photographs to help readers understand the surgical techniques. Because of the rarity of the diseases and shortage of advising doctors, operative techniques for neonatal and infant surgery are difficult to learn. In order to understand essential operative procedures, schematic drawings and suitable intraoperative photographs are called for. Operative General Surgery in Neonates and Infants was written by leading experts in pediatric surgery with extensive experience in their respective fields. The contents provide detailed practical advice on the surgical procedures and perioperative management in neonates and infants. This book is a valuable guide for trainees and a helpful refresher text for specialized pediatric surgeons and can also be used to explain operative procedures to parents.
