At first, I hesitated to put two stories in one book. Their only connection is combat. Camp Boardwalk in 1945. Ice in Vietnam 1967. Camp Boardwalk is about men recovering from their wounds and celebrating the end of WWII. With the breakout of peace, what will their futures bring? Ice is a small part of an exhausting war that ended April, 1976, during the infamous helicopter exits. All the main characters are military. There are exceptions for cops and crooks in one book. Women in both. The author’s intention is to provide the reader the opportunity to participate in the main events of 1945 and 1967. The Central Railroad of New Jersey's Seashore Branch provided rail and boat services from New York City to points along the New Jersey Shore. It discontinued passenger service in 1966, with the last freight train operating in 1983. Official abandonment proceedings sparked the need to keep the right of way for future mass transit needs. This led to interim use. Today, the area is called the Henry Hudson Trail and is one of over 500 parks referred to nationally as a Rail-Trail. This free, ten-mile-long, hiking, biking, and walking trail is administered by the Monmouth County Parks System, and connects several towns of the Raritan Bay shore area. This rare look will enlighten trail users through images of views gone forever, while pointing out structures still in place. Atlantic City was founded in 1854 and soon became a seaside resort surpassing all others, earning the nickname "Queen of Resorts." Chronicling the glory of the city from 1900 to 1930, these vintage postcards depict a time when visitors were eager to stroll on a local invention, the boardwalk; frolic on the beach; ride a rolling chair; and buy saltwater taffy. The annual Easter parade and Miss America Pageant became Atlantic City traditions. Amusement piers offered vaudeville, band concerts, thrill rides, diving horses, fishnet hauls, and more. Visitors stayed in grand hotels, among the largest and finest in the world. Through more than 200 postcard images, the amazing spirit of this historic resort town is revealed.
