The best seats Lisa Kohn ever had at Madison Square Garden were at her mother's mass wedding, and the best cocaine she ever had was from her father's friend, the judge. Born to hippie parents and raised in New York City's East Village in the 1970s, Lisa's early years were a mixture of encounter groups, primal screams, macrobiotic diets, communes, Indian ashrams, Jefferson Airplane concerts in Central Park, and watching naked actors on off-Broadway stages during the musical HAIR. By the time her older brother was ten, Lisa's father had him smoking pot. By the time Lisa was ten, Lisa's mother had them pledging their lives to the Unification Church (the "Moonies") and self-appointed Messiah, Reverend Sun Myung Moon. As a child Lisa knew the ecstatic comfort of inclusion in a cult and as a teenager the torment of rebelling against it. As an adult, Lisa struggled to break free from the hold of abuse and the scars in her heart, mind, and psyche--battling her own addictions and inner demons and searching her soul for a sense of self-worth. Told in spirited candor, to the moon and back reveals how one can leave behind absurdity and horror and create a life of intention and joy. This is the fascinating tale of a story rarely told in its full complexity.

An intimate portrait of the Earth's closest neighbor--the Moon--that explores the history and future of humankind's relationship with it Every generation has looked towards the heavens and wondered at the beauty of the Moon. Fifty years ago, a few Americans became the first to do the reverse--and shared with Earth-bound audiences the view of their own planet hanging in the sky instead. Recently, the connection has been discovered to be even closer: a fragment of the Earth's surface was found embedded in a rock brought back from the Moon. And astronauts are preparing to return to the surface of the Moon after a half-century hiatus--this time to the dark side. Oliver Morton explores how the ways we have looked at the Moon have shaped our perceptions of the Earth: from the controversies of early astronomers such as van Eyck and Galileo, to the Cold War space race, to the potential use of the Moon as a stepping stone for further space exploration. Advanced technologies, new ambitions, and old dreams mean that men, women, and robots now seem certain to return to the Moon. For some, it is a future on which humankind has turned its back for too long. For others, an adventure yet to begin.

A scientist’s inspiring vision of our return to the Moon as humanity’s next thrilling step in space exploration Just over half a century since Neil Armstrong first stepped foot on the lunar surface, a new space race to the Moon is well underway and rapidly gaining momentum. Laying out a vision for the next fifty years, Back to the Moon is astrophysicist Joseph Silk’s persuasive and impassioned case for putting scientific discovery at the forefront of lunar exploration. The Moon offers opportunities beyond our wildest imaginings, and plans to return are rapidly gaining momentum around the world. NASA aims to build a habitable orbiting space station to coordinate lunar development and exploration, while European and Chinese space agencies are planning lunar villages and the mining of precious resources dwindling here on Earth. Powerful international and commercial interests are driving the race to revisit the Moon, but lunar infrastructures could also open breathtaking vistas onto the cosmos. Silk describes how the colonization of the Moon could usher in a thrilling new age of scientific exploration, and lays out what the next fifty years of lunar science might look like. With lunar telescopes of unprecedented size situated in permanently dark polar craters and on the far side of the Moon, we could finally be poised to answer some of the most profound questions confronting humankind, including whether we are alone in the Universe and what our cosmic origins are. Addressing both the daunting challenges and the immense promise of lunar exploration and exploitation, Back to the Moon reveals how prioritizing science, and in particular lunar astronomy, will enable us to address the deepest cosmic mysteries.

The Handbook of Communication Rights, Law, and Ethics delivers an extensive review of the challenges facing modern communication rights. It offers readers an examination of the interplay between communication law and ethics and the role played by communication professionals in protecting individuals’ rights to communication. Distinguished authors Loreto Corredoira, Ignacio Bel Mallén and Rodrigo Cetina Presuel walk readers through the fundamental ideas and concepts that represent universal common ground regarding communication rights. They compare communication rights theories developed in Europe, the United States, Latin America, Australia, and East Asia to describe how communication-related freedoms and rights are formulated and applied around the world. Finally, the meaning of the phrases “freedom of expression” and “freedom of the press” are examined in the context of national constitutions and international human rights instruments. The Handbook of Communication Rights, Law, and Ethics provides readers with: A diverse, global perspective on how communication rights are protected and challenged around the world A universal vision of communication rights that encourages dialogue rather than confrontation A comparison of the American First Amendment of the Constitution with European communication rights theories and other legal traditions around the world An exploration of the frontiers of communication rights concepts, terminology, jurisdiction, and territoriality Perfect for professors, graduate students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers studying communication rights and freedom of expression around the world, The Handbook of Communication Rights, Law, and Ethics also belongs on the bookshelves of researchers studying issues surrounding freedom of the press in North America, Europe, and Latin America.

The Unexpected Ways the Coronavirus Impacts the Human Body DR. MATT BAI, EMERGENCY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN, MOUNT SINAI HOSPITAL And now, I’m ready to go out into the ER. [I] don’t know quite what to expect yet. DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN CORRESPONDENT Don’t know what to expect—in so many ways. The coronavirus has challenged ER doctors like Matt Bai since it hit, baffling doctors with its mysterious symptoms. [The] coronavirus is a respiratory virus. It can spread through droplets with each cough or each breath. DR. MANISHA JUTHANI-MEHTA, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE AND EPIDEMIOLOGY, YALE UNIVERSITY You have a droplet that then goes into your nose, maybe down to your throat and eventually down into your lungs. DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN CORRESPONDENT But some people have critically low oxygen levels and, yet, still appear like you and me. DR. RICHARD LEVITAN, EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN [It’s] almost unimaginable how people could be awake and alert and have oxygen levels that are half normal. DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN CORRESPONDENT And it gets even more confusing. A respiratory virus doesn’t typically cause isolated loss of smell or bumps and lesions on the feet. From nose to toes and nearly every organ in between, how does a microscopic strand of RNA wreak so much and such varied destruction? DR. MATT BAI, EMERGENCY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN, MOUNT SINAI HOSPITAL So, when they come in, they can be to the extreme where they have no pulse already, or they’re coming in breathing really fast and hypoxic with a very low oxygen level and cold and blue. DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN CORRESPONDENT It could have to do with the way the virus typically enters our cells in the first place. You’re looking at the ACE2 receptor. Now, see how the spikes on the coronavirus bind to the surface of the cell. DR. MANISHA JUTHANI-MEHTA, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE AND EPIDEMIOLOGY, YALE UNIVERSITY This particular receptor is known to be in lung tissue, but it’s also known to be in the heart and other parts of the body. It seems that this ACE2 receptor is expressed17 more, potentially, with age. DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN CORRESPONDENT Higher levels of ACE2 are often present in men, which could also explain why they are most likely to be affected more severely—patients like 33-year-old Warren Alvega, who had a life-threatening blood clot in his lungs. WARREN ALVEGA, CORONAVIRUS PATIENT The next thing I know, I was on the floor. DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN CORRESPONDENT Then there’s the mystery of what it’s doing to some children. At least three [are] dead now in New York from an illness with symptoms similar to Kawasaki disease—a condition where the blood vessels become inflamed. ANDREW CUOMO, GOVERNOR OF NEW YORK We have about 100 cases of an inflammatory disease in young children that seems to be created by the COVID[-19] virus. DR. MANISHA JUTHANI-MEHTA, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE AND EPIDEMIOLOGY, YALE UNIVERSITY The children that are having these signs of inflammatory conditions—they already had the infection over two weeks ago. So, this is not like another virus that I’ve seen. DR. SANJAY GUPTA, CNN CORRESPONDENT This tiny little virus which cannot even be killed because truth is, it’s not even alive. A New Era of Spaceflight SpaceX Makes History with the First Crewed Private Rocket Launch SpaceX與美國太空總署於5月30日共同完成載人飛行任務,這不僅是相隔9年後再度從美國本土將太空人送上太空,更是私人企業首次載人上太空,寫下歷史新頁! The Controversial and Charismatic CEO of Tesla and SpaceX 特斯拉和SpaceX的執行長伊隆. The Unexpected Ways the Coronavirus Impacts the Human Body 體育 Life off the Court 女網新星大坂直美暢談居家隔離生活 Naomi Osaka Talks about the Lockdown and Overcoming Shyness The Greatest at His Greatest 籃球大帝喬丹的《最後一舞》 The Last Dance Documents Michael Jordan’s Final Chicago Bulls Season ESPN日前推出紀錄片,講述籃球巨星麥可. The Voice of the Unheard An Analysis of the Driving Factors behind Riots Solidarity Shown between Police Officers and Protesters in George Floyd’s Death Scientists Attempt to Train Human Body to Detect Signs of the Virus Using Animals in the Global Fight against the Pandemic Looking at the Heritage of São Paulo’s Art Scene
