Thoughts While Shaving is a collection of observations and anecdotes which originated some years ago when, after he had retired, the author found himself settled in S. Carolina on the East coast, while his family were spread over in the North-West , and, as they were all lousy letter-writers, communication was restricted to an occasional , but welcome, phone call. As a better - than - nothing way of keeping in touch, he started sending out a 'Thoughts While Shaving' letter every month in the hope of provoking some sort of written reaction, and as this seemed to have some success, the prospect of publishing them eventually emerged . The compiling of them for publication has been a welcome labor and it is hoped that, at least for some, this pleasure may be shared.

Reefer Madness, a classic in the annals of hemp literature, is the popular social history of marijuana use in America. Beginning with the hemp farming of George Washington, author Larry "Ratso" Sloman traces the fascinating story of our nation's love-hate relationship with the resilient weed we know as marijuana. Herein we find antiheroes such as Allen Ginsberg, Robert Mitchum (the first Hollywood actor busted for pot), Louis Armstrong (who smoked pot every day), the Beatles, and more rapscallions standing up for, supporting, smoking, and politicizing the bounties of marijuana. With a new afterword by Michael Simmons, who has written for Rolling Stone, LA Weekly, and High Times, on the progress of the hemp movement and the importance of medical marijuana, Reefer Madness is a classic that goes on.

This is a collection of essays represents an attempt by the author to strike a blow for the freedom of thought and expression- even if its wrong. Anything that smacks of orthodoxy is avoided where possible, and rigidity of thinking and establishing dogma are treated with equal suspicion. No claim is made for scholarship, only for an honest attempt to eliminate some of the prejudices from which we all suffer. "Don't kid yourself" is the goal that is strived for - though it may seldom be reached. Above all, it is hoped that these essays my encourage some people to think for themselves rather than to passively absorb the dubious pronouncements of our self-styled 'authorities', 'religious' and otherwise, who are only too willing to tell us how we should live and what we should believe. This should be our decision only. We betray our birthright when we allow other people to do our thinking for us.
