Katherine now lives in Albany, Georgia and is a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. She has two wonderful sons, Kyhiel and Anthony, "Kylie".
The journey to finding God is different for every one of us. It doesn't matter who you call God. He calls on us to serve, to love unconditionally. I am a survivor because God chose me to be. I learned to find peace in the storm. My journey does not look like yours, yet when I was willing to stand still, I could find peace because God found me right where I was. How many times have we all asked, "Why me?" at one time or another in our lives? Many years ago, after sharing my story with a trusted friend, she commented, "That's a lot." I replied, "It is, and what I don't understand is, why me?" Her response has helped me through some of the darkest days of my life. She said, "Why not you? God has a plan for you." Putting all of it in a book for the world to read was not my plan; it was God's. I have shared my story with many others over the years, and every time at least one person comes to me afterward and tells me how my story has inspired them to keep moving forward. So before I speak, I pray that one person will hear something in my account to give them a little hope, a spark to make a decision, or encourage them not to give up. I have done my work well if my story saves one person from the darkness and hopelessness of abuse, violence, fear, shame, defeat, or addiction.

One handstand. That’s all it took. And Lucy Pitcher spun William Shearwater’s world upside down. Fifty years on, ‘Shears’ is a squeaky-clean Anglican chaplain, nursing memories of a lost and secret love. He has never met English teacher Sophie Daggert, recently bereaved and on a quest to trace her natural parents. But through a mesmerizing series of twists and turns, Sophie and Shears are brought together in a shocking journey of self-discovery – with 1967’s Summer of Love at the heart of it all. ‘Witty, tragic and emotional. If there’s a better-observed comic novel about the 1960s, I’ll eat my kaftan.’ Cindy Kent MBE, (ex-The Settlers) ‘Goddard’s knowledge of popular culture is extraordinary, and the way he weaves it into a believable range of characters makes this book utterly compelling. A splendid read is guaranteed for all.’ Don Maclean, former presenter of BBC TV’s Crackerjack!
Witchcraft and a Life in the New South Africa reconstructs the biography of an ordinary South African, Jimmy Mohale. Born in 1964, Jimmy came of age in rural South Africa during apartheid, then studied at university and worked as a teacher during the anti-apartheid struggle. In 2005, Jimmy died from an undiagnosed sickness, probably related to AIDS. Jimmy gradually came to see the unanticipated misfortune he experienced as a result of his father's witchcraft and sought remedies from diviners rather than from biomedical doctors. This study casts new light on scholarly understandings of the connections between South African politics, witchcraft and the AIDS pandemic.

2016 Choice Oustanding Academic Title Just looking at the Pacific Northwest’s many verdant forests and fields, it may be hard to imagine the intense work it took to transform the region into the agricultural powerhouse it is today. Much of this labor was provided by Mexican guest workers, Tejano migrants, and undocumented immigrants, who converged on the region beginning in the mid-1940s. Of Forests and Fields tells the story of these workers, who toiled in the fields, canneries, packing sheds, and forests, turning the Pacific Northwest into one of the most productive agricultural regions in the country. Employing an innovative approach that traces the intersections between Chicana/o labor and environmental history, Mario Sifuentez shows how ethnic Mexican workers responded to white communities that only welcomed them when they were economically useful, then quickly shunned them. He vividly renders the feelings of isolation and desperation that led to the formation of ethnic Mexican labor organizations like the Pineros y Campesinos Unidos Noroeste (PCUN) farm workers union, which fought back against discrimination and exploitation. Of Forests and Fields not only extends the scope of Mexican labor history beyond the Southwest, it offers valuable historical precedents for understanding the struggles of immigrant and migrant laborers in our own era. Sifuentez supplements his extensive archival research with a unique set of first-hand interviews, offering new perspectives on events covered in the printed historical record. A descendent of ethnic Mexican immigrant laborers in Oregon, Sifuentez also poignantly demonstrates the links between the personal and political, as his research leads him to amazing discoveries about his own family history...www.mariosifuentez.com
