The research is designed to understand the essential characteristics of human flourishing for marginalized women and children, key dynamics for church-based collaborative ministries, and the functions of church and civic leaders toward encouraging human flourishing. The study arose from the desire to develop church-based collaborative ministries that would encourage the flourishing of marginalized women and children in the Kabale District. The study was guided by four conceptual frameworks: human flourishing, eight dimensions of wellness, transformational development, and the biblical foundations for collaborative ministries. The conceptual frameworks provided insights from different perspectives which led me to understand marginality as a multicausal phenomenon and its negative effect on women's and children’s flourishing. As a result, I designed a change strategy which led me to implement a church-based collaborative ministry pilot project to promote human flourishing. The dissertation is divided into three major parts. In part one, the background and related literature were reviewed, and in part two the field research study was conducted to better understand the functions of church and civic leaders towards establishing church-based collaborative ministries (CBCM) and the key essential dynamics for successful CBCM. The data was collected and analyzed and the functions of church and civic leaders towards establishing CBCM and key essential dynamics of successful CBCM were identified. In part three the contextual and organizational leadership analysis was done which led to the development of a systemic change strategy. This dissertation provides strategies to establish successful CBCM between church and civic leaders in the Kabale District. New strategies and best practices to establish CBCM are being explored as the pilot project is implemented and evaluated. The lessons learned are being shared and recommendations are made to leaders who wish to establish CBCM in other parts of Uganda.
