DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from The Woollen and Worsted Industries His general sketch of the Woollen and Worsted Industries is the first of its kind. Therefore there are sure to be some mistakes and omissions, though every effort has been made to make it accurate SO far as it goes. But it is a sketch, not a fully finished picture. I shall be only too glad to receive criticisms and additional facts from any source. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from The History of the Woollen and Worsted Industries To trace the origin and progress [of manufactures], with the causes of that progress, is more worthy the pains of the student than to make himself acquainted with the annals of wars and dynasties, or with nineteen-twentieths of the matters which fill the pages of history. DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from The Yorkshire Woollen and Worsted Industries, From the Earliest Times Up to the Industrial Revolution, Vol. 1 The technologist who looks to these pages for new informa tion concerning the progress of textile skill and methods will be disappointed. Excepting in Chapters VIII and X, I have avoided making any detailed description of textile processes, for such a task can be accomplished successfully only by one versed thoroughly in the practices surrounding the making of cloth. L have dealt rather with the weaver than with weaving with textile workers rather than with technology. Still, it was impossible to neglect entirely the technical side of the story, and the general reader who wishes to understand the difference between woollens and worsteds, or to know the character of the various textile processes, is recommended to glance first at the treatment of these topics on pp. 25943 and 332-44. DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from The Wool Industry Commercial Problems of the American Woolen and Worsted Manufacture The body of printed matter covering these com mercial phases of the subject is very meager. On this account, anyone working in this field is obliged to depend largely upon the knowledge, views, and opinions of those in the trade. I have found the men engaged in the various commercial activities in these industries to be generous and frank in their attempts to help me find and accurately state the truth, and I take this occasion to express my keen appreciation of the assistance received from them. But these helpers have had points of View ranging from those of sheep-breeders in Montana to those of mill stylers in New York. It is probable, therefore, that I have not been able to interpret accurately all that has been said to me. I am conscious that, not withstanding the exercise of all possible care, errors of fact as well as of judgment doubtless still remain in the book. I shall welcome correction of any of these errors.
