Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Excerpt from The Unwritten History of Braddock's Field (Pennsylvania) Early in January, 1917, a meeting of the business men of Braddock was called to discuss the project of celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the incorporation of the borough, which event occurred June 8, 1867. It soon developed that this year was also the twenty-fifth anniversary of the incorporation of Rankin borough. It was then suggested that as the first white settlement west of the Alleghanies was made on ground now within the borough limits of North Braddock on or about 1742, the celebration should include the one-hundred-seventy-fifth anniversary of this settlement. Accordingly it was resolved to hold a celebration in commemoration of "The Golden Jubilee of Braddock, the Silver Jubilee of Rankin, and the one-hundred-seventy-fifth anniversary of the First White Settlement West of the Alleghanies." The celebration was at once placed in the hands of an Executive Committee, consisting of Chas. E. Dinkey, Chairman; A. P. Roderus, H. B. Miller, Dr. F. K. Whitfield, J. Knox Milligan, H. R. Hunter, L. F. Holtzman, Esq., Wm. J. Dixon, Leo. A. Katz, E. D. Nugent, F. G. Bishoff, W. H. Sullivan, W. J. McBeth.
