Fishing is the author's main pastime. Since a teenager, aged 16 year-old, he started going to the beach for fishing. He would also accompany an acquainted commercial old fisherman going to the brackish mangrove swamps to catch mud crabs using a steel rod with one end slightly curved and casting net to catch prawns. The author would also go the 'kelong', a platform built from sort of palms driven into the sea bed. It has one or more shacks and a lift net to trap fish and squids at night. The experiences gave him the knowledge and expertise leading him confidently to own a fish farm used to breed fingerlings by the time he matured in his fifties. He also started owning a 62 ft. long fishing boat for charter. He introduced local waters fishing right up to the port limits. To give seasoned fishers a good fight for their money, he sailed out with fishers to Malaysian East Coast waters or to the nearby Indonesian islands waters, depending on the monsoons. Today, the author is in his seventies. He wrote this book to share his experiences and what he knew best that could work on hooking up fish.
