Excerpt from The Pedigree of Man: Four Lectures Delivered at the Twenty-Eighth Anniversary Meetings of the Theosophical Society, at Adyar, December, 1903 In sending out these lectures to theosophical students, I desire to preface them with a word of warning. They have no pretension to be an "authoritative" statement, any more than has any other book which has come form my pen. It may seem needless to repeat a statement which I have made so often, but the tendency to regard the simple work of a student as the teaching of an authority appears to recur constantly, and hence the need for repudiation also recurs. I have dealt in these lectures with a most difficult and complicated subject; I have not had the opportunity to consult with any one as to the accuracy of the observations made, by means of which I have filled up gaps in the series of facts given us by H. P. B.; hence they are the unverified observations of a single student, made with such poor powers as I possess, and made amid the turmoil of a busy and crowded life. The things I have observed have been very illuminative to me, and have proved interesting and helpful to the many good students in whose presence the lectures were delivered.
