Hendrick Jochemsz (ca. 1624-1682) was born in Hamburg and came to the Hudson Valley in 1653 when he married Elsie Janse, born in Denmark. Both later died in Kingston, New York. Descendants lived in New York, Iowa, Illinois, and elsewhere. One descendant, Sarah Elizabeth Shoemaker (1845-1882), married George Averill (1838-1914) in 1866 in Iowa.
